Like RAB said Old is being quite about getting up there and doing the repair. I told him when he is ready to get up there give me a shout ahead of time, that way i can swipe his ladder, load up the Oliver S88 and head back to Oregon....LOL
And he will still be up on the roof hollering...

ROTFLMAO

Right now I have a temp patch on it. I filled the hole with that foam type stuff and then put a good layer of roof tar on top of it for now. Once the weather gets warm enough I'll be coating the whole roof. Some how when a mobile home roof gets hit that hard it twistes it enough to cause leaks all over the place and the only way to fix it is coat if from front to back and then do it again or at least thats how I'm going to do it once it get where it will be 50 plus all the time.

Makes ya wonder how it ever got moved to where it is without all those leaks !? I don't know if this would work or not but someone told me a long time ago that the spray-on rubberized undercoat for automobiles ( like Napa sells ) works good for a temp. patch and real easy to do . It sounds a mite expensive though if you have a lot of leaks . But for a quick fix it might be something to look into . Be carefull up there or send a kid to do it . Good luck ...Randy

With the older ones like I have with the metal roofs the first thing you did after moveing one in was to go up on the roof and coat it good. Now days with the shingle type roofs its no big deal since they are made to absorb the twisting. I als least have all the stuff I need to fix it just have to wait on the weather now. I have 4-5 gallion buckets of roof coating which cost a fair bit at $40 each plus a roll of flashing at around $40 plus a few other things to boot. Oh well such is life

When we had our 1973 14x60 Fleetwood, I had a lot of roof leak problems, especially when it snowed a lot and it was quite cold. One time a bunch of water started coming in through the roof-mounted swamp cooler. It was dammed up behind ice dams and was more than 6" deep at the cooler! I chopped openings in the ice dams and then put an electric heat cable across the mobile home roof at the low point.

I also had some problems with small leaks at the joints between the metal roofing sheets. I found that covering those joints with the fabric tape and then coating the whole roof with Snow Roof cured most of those leaks. But I had to recoat the roof at least every other year or it would leak somewhere.

Our old mobile home sure didn't owe us anything--it was mighty cheap living for a lot of years. When we finally built a new house about 10 years ago, I had a terrible time getting rid of it. For a while, I wondered if I would have to pay someone to haul it away. But then I more or less gave it to a young couple with 3 little kids who needed it badly. It was in reasonably good shape, and the last I heard, they were still living in it.

But if I ever get another mobile home, I want one with a more steeply sloped roof that I would not have to fool with so much. And 6" thick walls, so it would hold the heat better. But then I doubt that I could get such a home for the $8000 I paid for the 73 either. Have a good one!

Funny story - and I think its true! A younger neighbor (40's) went over to help an elderly man fix his chimney. The older man stayed on the ground and held the ladder while the man worked on the roof. The elderly man took the ladder down and went inside to watch the football game. Being hard of hearing, he never heard the shouts for help. Another neighbor ened up helping him off the roof several hours later.

When I was Farming in Ill. I was driving down a back Dirt Road to get to one of my fields and I saw a man up on top of a Grain Bin waving at me so I pulled into his field and stopped at the Bin and asked what was the matter. He replied that he could not get down from the top of the Bin as some one had taken his Ladder.Seems his son went looking for him and saw the Ladder leaning aghainst the bin so he took it Home where it was supposed to be not realizing his Dad was inside the Bin. Asked why he did not think it out of the ordinary why his Dads Truck was there and he was not in view his reply, [the sons], H+++, he is always going off with some one for Coffee or a Beer and leaving that Truck Parked any where. How was I supposed to know the Old fool was in the Bin when he has orders to never go in a Bin with out some one there with him? Seems the Old Fool was the one who made the Rule.
