the local vo-tech school had a cylinder made with a cleer resin "peep hole" to watch the plug fire under compression. they found that all spark plugs will fail at a certain amount of commpression but the champion plug is always the 1st to fail.

Probably not much? Champion catalog shows both 8 and 8-COM are obsolete discontinued plugs and both were replaced by Champion RD-16. RD-16 would be a resistor plug and a D-16 would be non resistor. They also made some hotter ones 8-COM-C and 8-COM-D that were replaced by D-23. All of them can be replaced by a better Autolite 3116 or a Denso L-14U anyway.
