Phil:
Great pics. Are you in south western Pa.? or North Western?

That soil looks almost sandy. Old lake-bed? Do you get it so level/fine with a large tiller? I'm trying to decide whether a large tiller is better than a plow/disk, on 35 acres along an old creek. (up by punxsy)

Southwest, Beaver County. Shaly and clay. Only sand is in the giant litter box.

Phil:

Thoughts on tillers?

Does anyone near you grow peaches? Apricots? Pears? I know apples are everywhere.
I'm wondering about the last day of frost. Too cold for peaches along most of 80, and around Punxsy: too high.

Mono, you would be better of working your ground with a disc. A tiller compacts the ground at whatever depth you are tilling. Sure it is nice and loose on the top 6 inches or so, but below that is like concrete. Will stay wet in the spring, then your crop will run out of water in a dry spell. R

I use a 3 bottom moldboard plow followed by a disk and then a cultimulcher. Probably work the ground too much. Where I lay plastic mulch I use a 6' Woods 3 pt rototiller after doing all the other tillage. Makes the plastic lay easier and provides a better bed to transplant into. I've been considering using a chisel plow and then whatever secondary tillage to get a good enough seed bed. The picture where the tomatoes are is extremely shalely ground. It can almost cut your hands pushing the plants in. The one with the tractor going down the row in the sweet corn is extremely deep loam. Best ground I have. Only 1/4 mile apart but on 2 different ridges. All my ground is ridge runner land, no bottom land.

Find the picture in your computer write down location. The select HELP IDENTIFY under Galleries on the left side of the page. When that opens select ADD YOUR PHOTO. Fill out the form Click on NEXT STEP. Then click on BROWSE and wait while the YT server finds you picture identifier that you wrote down. Then click on SUBMIT. Your picture will then be on the top of the list when you go back to HELP IDENTIFY. If you want to put it on a forum right click on your photo, and select COPY IMAGE LOCATION, Then back on the Forum, in the optional image U R L right click, and paste the U R L in the box. When you click on PREVIEW YOUR REPLY your picture should be there before you select, SUBMIT REPLY. If you want bigger pictures in your post try this. Doesn't have to be Help Identify pick the appropriate one in Galleries

Hi David
I use Photo Bucket also. Under your phto in Phto Bucket are three lines of info. The center one is HMTL Tag. Highlight the info to the right of the word tag. Drag to the right so you get all of it. Then go Edit and click copy. Open YT and paste into your message and the picture will appear.
That is what I done to put this one here.
