I have a Massey and am not sure if it is a TO 20 or 30, I was told it was a '52 TO 30. I am fixing the head on it and the actual model has came into question. I do know that it has a Z 120A-600 T engine and the serial # is 7760. Does anyone know how to tell what model or year I actually have? Thanks, Chad

Thank you all very much. I have been telling the guys at NAPA that I had a 52 TO 30, luckily for me all the parts that I have got from them so far have worked anyhow. Thanks to all the replies, Chad

That Z120 A..... number isjust a casting number. the serial number on the dash is what determines your tractor model and year. Yours is a '49 TO-20. (The TO numbers from 00001 to 60000 are TO-20's and TO 60001 to about TO 140000 are TO-30's.)

Mike is correct. Your tractor was built by Harry Ferguson, Inc before the merger with Massey-Harris. There are a couple of serial numbers on those machines. One of them is on the engine tag. That's usually considered the engine number. The actual serial number for the tractor is on a tag on the dashboard above the steering column. If the number you gave us is off the dash tag, it would be a 1950 Ferguson TO-20.

jim...not to dispute you, but my book shows the sn's for 1950 to-20's starting at 14660. makes me wonder if there's more than one reference book out there. this isn't the first time i've given someone a year from my book and someone else has come back with a different year. hmmmm?

here's what my book says:
1948-1
1949-1808
1950-14660
1951-39163

this is from the YT book...what book do you have?

Yep, you're absolutely right! I got my info from the s/n chart on this site, but my eyes skipped a line when I was reading it. My mistake. It should be a '49.

I'm still waiting to get started on a TO-30 project (1952) that I inherited last fall. I'm still getting up to speed on this brand. All I've dealt with up to now is Fords.

the z-120 engine came in the to-20. to-30 had a z-129 engine. to-20 serial numbers, 1808 to
14659 were built in 1949 also...to-20's are ferguson's not masseys.
