We all know of the rampant use of the word "got" when we should use "have". What about the reply to "how are you?" being "alright, how about yourself?" Do we answer "myself couldn't be better"? This bugs me to no end.

How about when someone says " he goes" or "she goes" instead of he said or she said, How about bring and take? if you are going somewhere you take something with you. If you want someone to get something for you they will bring it to you. How about the young kids at check out registers who couldn't count your change back to you if their life depended on it.

I guess I'm usually more interested in what the person has to say than how they say it. As long as I can understand them, I could care less about their grammer/spelling. They are free to do as they like.

Well, after reading the posts here I want to throw my two cents in. I have dyslexia; it was really though in school, They didn't have a name for it then. This really affected how I learn grammar, math and reading. This never stopped me because I have found books on tape. Now I might not be able to spell the words I can at least understand them. As for grammar I'm still working on it. I hope to have right at least for my marker.

In order to make my posts a little more tolerable, I start the process and move to my word processor, put in the content, and then use spell check to clean it up. Next, I cut and paste to get it back to my post. While I expect most of the folk posting here, who spell poorly do the same, it took me awhile to get onto this after starting to use this site. We have a wide range of skill levels here in a variety of fields. Let's share to help each other to improving all of them. Example: two=2, to=to and from a place or thing, too=also. Please excuse pontification.

I think many of those who use "yourself" in that context know its a grammatical error (I do, anyhow), but I have used that phrase to let the listener know that I'm not necessarily "prim and proper", and won't insist that they be. Its kind of an icebreaker, as folks are often put off by someone who insists on perfect grammar (or grammer, if you prefer) in all contexts. If it bugs you, I suggest you simply recognize that the person may have a sense of humor, and avoid him at all costs. And stay away from any Mark Twain writings.

It's simple. On the Net we can't see your clothing, personal grooming or possessions. We can't even smell your after-shave. With the exception of a few photographs all we see is text, and we determine your credibility based upon how and what you write.

If you wish to add flair to your persona you'll toss in a local expression, eh?

We all know that folks from different parts of the world have different ways of talking and writing. There are many different levels of education and concern for our english language. As for me, or myself whichever you prefer, I overlook te grammar and spelling and read only the message. We are all friends here and I hope to use the lists as a casual meeting as we would a face to face conversation. I am sure if you insisted they always use proper grammar, that the conversation would be a very short one.

Be tolerant, enjoy the comraderie and share on each of our own levels... Gene

I have had friends over the years who couldnt read or write well. Some of them live far away now, others have passed on.I found them to be good friends who would help you in any way they could.I have a close friend who cant read a rule down to fractions but reads well.My wife says I have some strange friends.I tell her thats because I never make fun of them and treat them in a kind manner. When you get older and good friends begin to pass on you wish you could have spent more time with them.

Reminds me of when I was a youngster, I answered the door and an older woman asked to speak to either my Mother or Father. I replied "my ma ain't home and my pa ain't here nohow". The woman said, "Son--where is your grammar?", to which I replied, she's out in the kitchen bakin' cookies-----

MYSELF'S tractors are all tucked away in the polebarn, out of the weather, on a thirty below North Dakota night, except for one, which is in the heated shop!

Thank you very much for your concern for them!

If I made a policy of talking to my tractors, I would tell them of your concern, in the morning!

However, I think I'll pass on that!

I always tell my equipment that they did a good job when I finish a chore. My seventeen year old tractor that I bought new has only had regular service and very little repair due to high morale.

The only thing I find more disgusting than poor grammar and spelling, is the idiot who insists on writing like a true moron. One person posting here, purposely misspells in an attempt to come across as the cute and ignorant hillbilly.

It makes apparent the sad state of education that exists in this country, and/or the lack of gray matter between the ears of former students.
