Intake gasket on GM 6.0L

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with GM's 6.0L motors? Has anyone ever had any problems with the intake gaskets leaking? When I start my truck when it's cold out, it starts up fine but when it tries to idle down it wants to die. Was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem and if the intake gaskets are hard to change. I change the fuel filter and air filter and cleaned the mass air flow sensor and still does this. Thanks for any input. It's an 2002 GMC 2500 HD 4x4 if that matters.

Thanks Darin

What sucks, is that this motor only has 63,000 miles on it and you hope that stuff like this wouldn't happen. But then, anything is possible...

Thanks for the input.

Darin, Spray the intake gasket area with carb spray while it's running rough cold. If the idle picks up, the gasket is leaking. We see lots of this on the 5.3s. The 6.0 has the same style gasket. The gasket loses it's sealing ability with time and will leak cold and seal off as the engine warms up. The original gasket has a reddish color seal imbedded in it. this has been superceded by one with a teal green seal which was made for use in the flex fuel engines and has better sealing properties.

Darin,I replaced an intake valve in an '02 6.0 a few months ago.I'd say it's near impossible for the intake gaskets to leak on the newer design(5.3,6.0)engines.Not at all like the vortec 350 notorious intake failure.

There is a sevice bulletin which has a remedy for your condition.# 04-06-04-040.The throttle bore and blade gets a coke/carbon buildup and can be cleaned using a shop rag and carb cleaner.I use a pipe cleaner bristle brush and carb cleaner.

If this doesn't fix it, it says to get the PCM re-flashed with most current update at your dealer.

I cleaned the throttle bore and blade on an 03 Avalanche which had the same problem and it took care of it.Take care...
