Had Fed. DOT audit on my little one truck and small farm business today, with 24 hours notice. He said it usually takes three days with a small company like mine, but it took him only 4 hours. But be ready!

To Rusty; details are we used to haul alot of hazmat and I got an audit in 1999 because I trusted a twenty year employee to get his physical, and due to a little paper thing I got only a conditional. so I came back up for a recheck. It's mainly records like daily ispections and weekly hours records. and maint records and random drug screening. they also do a level one truck check, lights, steering and slacks, but he didn't have a CVSA sticker for me.I told him that the sticker is worth $65.00 'cause it can keep you from having to go off the clock for a full ispection.

i am member of local lions club . 2 or 3 years ago our club applied for bingo permit from state of il . when we got our permit with a letter saying state of il had learned lots of clubs that hold bingo games also sell food and drink at such things and food and drink are subject to sales tax . also fish fries fish boils ect ect are also to pay a state sales tax . the club was saying when did this happen ? we learned law has been in effect for many years but state had not pushed it as most groups are using money for community betterment . then we got new governor he promised no new taxes just increased old taxes and added new FEES on almost everything .

Just went through one in our business last month. GD PIA but we got off with a satisfactory rating and no fines. Got lucky when the lady auditor allowed us to impliment a random drug testing policy AFTER the audit (otherwise a $2000 fine) - had to send her proof of our enrollment.

We only have one driver and he was drug tested 2X a year - not good enough for the DOT. According to the auditor what we were doing was the same as not having a drug testing program. We had to have RANDOM testing, so we had to join a group which will scientifically select random drivers for drug testing. Now instead of 2X a year he might ge tested one every three years or so. Does that make anyone safer?

Could you provide a few more details? What all was involved? Were they more concerned with the mechanical condition of the truck? Or mostly concerned with the paper work?

When the travel funds dry up they tend to work closer to home base. If it can't be found on any books move the equipment out for a while.

#$%^ blasted government-they are probably tapping our phones, and monitoring our posts on this forum. The only thing the government wants is ALL our money. This just really pisses me off.

This is another way of the feds scre*ing with your mind . Any time you have any kind of permit DOT # they can do this . That's why you want to keep trailors under 10,000 . They wan't their fingers in any thing they can get a doller out of & they want to know every thing you do the days are gone that you could trade or have a little job on the side and make a little money and stick it in your pocket . If the feds don't catch you the state will .

Yep they came into our local Coop and did one last year.

Found out the Coop had wrong plates on the grain trailers.

So then they tell the revenue department that we didn't pay enough sales tax on those trailers so they come in to do a revenue audit.

Before you know it they are trying to charge sales tax on several items that should be tax exempt.

Ain't finished yet but could cost Thousands if the Coop can't prove that the items are tax exempt.
