I have been truck shopping for a month and today I found and bought a 1997 GMC 2500 4x4 with 49,000 original miles. This thing is unbelievable. I was just wondering how long it will last me. All I wanted was a half ton but i guess i will live with the 3/4. This thing even rides good. Guess my question is will this last for an old Ford jockey like me?

The CO I worked for had a 1 ton duelly Silverado Ext Cab we used as a service truck was a 96 mod when I retired in 2003 it had 250,000 miles on it they sold it last year at about 375,000 miles as far as I know no major work done to it . I think it had a distrubuter replaced & 1 or two fuel pumps . Had a 454 CI engine with auto trans .

You will be a lot better off with the 3/4 ton than with the 1/2 ton. The body may or may not start rusting away in another 10 years or so, but the engine and drive train will still be going strong.

GMC is a good truck and will last. I had a '96 Chevy 1/2 ton and put 250,000 miles on it with no problems, traded that for an '03 Chevy 1/2 ton and got 160,000 miles on it now with no problems. I'm sure there will be differences of opinion here. You made the right decision.
