I have a JD4320 in good condition and would like to buy a disc to renovate pastures. The land is in Ok., Clay/silt and gets hard in the summer. I just want to cut the bermuda somewhat to make it grow better. Soil has not been touched with a plow in about 15 yrs. The tractor is listed at 116 Hp.

Try to find a JD 1630 disk. They were offered in different widths. A 12' I think would be good match. The 1630 had 26" cone blades and can angled for a more aggresive cut. It can also be used as a leveling disk.

Thanks everyone for the reply. Especially the recommendation for the JD 1630 with 26 inch cones.

My 4320 checks out at 130 HP, weighs in at 12,120 lbs with duals and no fuel. I pull a 22 ft 230 JD disk with standard blades in 4th (5 mph) in NC Iowa. Check out the tractor pictures in this section under my name.

Dean Barker---Great looking tractor, I"m sure that my tractor is not pulling 130 hp as its never been rebuilt and has about 7000 hrs. It looks very good but not quite as yours. It does have a cab.

I only plan to plow about 3-4 inches to break the soil up to make the Bermuda grow.

Brad M ---Where in North Texas are you? I am located in Sherman, Tx and my farm is just across the Red River in Ok.

It depends on how heavy of a disc you want and how deep you plan on pulling. Here in North Texas a heavy duty plowing tandem with cone discs, 12" is all you"ld want. I pull a medium duty Krause 14" with a 1066 IH, around 120hp, and have some power left, my 986 IH, around 105hp pulls it ok, but it"s all it wants in sand. All of our cattle gaurds and gates are 16" around here so that limits my width. You might want to look into a renovator/ aerator. Hay King makes subsoilers that people use a lot around here with good results. I built a drum type aerator that"s similar to a Lawson, but added some detachable rippers for very hard ground to aerate my Bermuda fields, and have had good results with it as well.

In NW Iowa a 4320 used to pull a 21 foot disk at about 4 mph and a five bottom plow with sixteen inch bottoms at 3 MPH in alfalfa and 4 1/2 in corn stalks but in Oklahoma a 21 foot disk that will go in the ground any depth might be a bit much for a 4320. Maybe an 18 foot might be a better bet. For the first couple of years that I was involved with harvesting in OK I thought the farmers were just in a hurry to get their tractors out when I saw them disking the wheat stubble the next day after the combines went through. Then I found out that if they don't till it right away that red soil will dry out and will be too hard to work. Jim
