I'll comment on two things here.

It sure is easy to blame the kids, but from the stories here, sounds like these kids (step kids)have good reason to be acting like little buttheads. They are victims of broken homes and parents who did not care enough about their well being to provide a loving, stable environment.
This country places no value in the institution of marriage. You don't get married for fun, or because it makes the woman happy. You get married because you want to spend your life with the person you have chosen. Then you make it work by being unselfish.
Marriage, like life has lots of ups and downs....disappointments, surprises, you name it...you have to be committed to making it work, and if you got married for the wrong reasons in the first place it makes it difficult. So now we have a couple of generations of kids running around whose ideas about family, respect, etc all is learned based on what they see...dysfunctional famlies...which we should blame ourselves for. My wife and I are raising our two young children to be respectful, polite and helpful. No it's not always easy nor fun. Sometimes they grumble about it, but I can take it. There is no other way to learn the right way to live...your parents have to be united and commited to it. I don't allow my kids to be close friends with kids who don't have a solid understanding of respect and manners.

Second...I am not a farmer. I grew up working on farms, and my grandparents were farmers. I have lived all but a few years of my life in a small farm town. That said, I guess I am a regular guy, and I don't agree that you have to be a farmer to be a good guy. I don't think it is that basic: FARMER=good, everyone else=bad.

I have a 16 yr old step son who only thinks of himself. His mom thinks it"s OK to play video games from sun up to sun down. He does OK in school but at home he does nothing. His dad bought him a laptop for Christmass and I think he is the only one in his school with a laptop. Me and the wife went to Dallas Stock show this past week and he did little as possible as far as feeding all our horses, mule, cows as in no water where the neighbor had to water them so I took his laptop away and his mom had a fit. She took it harder then the stepson saying he needs his laptop for school and I said not any more he doesn"t and I"m sticking to it. Of course the kid played his mom saying that his home work is on the laptop which might be true and his mom fell for it, so I guess he is going to do it the old fashion way with pen and paper! I got married for the first time three years ago with no kids and I"m 46 and it"s her first time also. I"ve always dated older woman because the kids where out of the house and the women I"ve dated with kids were bad moms letting there kids smoke, talking back, bad grads, being suspended from school and who knows what else and these woman thought that was OK. Some times I wish I had my freedom back. I did lots of adventures in my life that most men would only dream, but then I got married and I still love my wife and it is hard but when my step son is away we get along good and I plan on staying with my wife waiting till he turns 18 (1 1/2 years) and then he is gone!!! and I tell my wife if she don"t like it she can go too!!!! and I"m sticking to it!!! She doesn"t like that to much but I think it"s the best for the kid. I set the rules and stick to it (some what) and the mom is to fore giving which is harmful to the kid. Thanks for reading this but I had to vent this out and it help!!!!! !!!!

I agree, if the farmer was raised like that. Todays youth-6yrold up to these young 20's are really something , no manners, no respect, and seem to think a manly fight involves guns or knives or 5 buddies helping him out, and it never good enough to just whoop em, they now have to nearly kill em, tape it, and put in on this "post anything" internet. What do you expect look at todays movies, shows, heck even the cartoons these days are nothing but obnoxios ja*ka#s characters. My 10 year old was just told he had to find new freinds cause all they do is swear and talk about things they dont even realize are, and in the last year my 10 year old has turned into a little A#s, so we are in the middle of a reprogramming. He is my stepson and I love him a lot , but this last year he has decided that I am boring and his dad's somewhat rowdyness and his spoiled freinds are much cooler than I. Gonna be a tough few years, but I gotta stay tough or hell stay on the wrong path

Shoot your lucky Dave hes only 10. You should see what they are like when there 16 like my stepson. Theres more time around here then I can count that I would like to knock a knot up side my step sons head, mostly because he does but doesn't think before he does and that causes problems big time.

Case and point gentlemen, I saw on the news this a.m. where they kicked a couple off a plane because this couple could not make their 3 year old daughter fasten her seat belt, the world is up in arms over it. If it was my kid one trip to the restroom and she would have been glad to get in that seat even with a sore bottom! If you let a child walk on you at 3 what do expect? Its time the parents of these kids get some balls and everyone else tend to the raising of their own!
