I'm amazed at all the flags I have seen flying at full mast for the last 27 days. Do not people know when and how to display our flag correctly ?

I have also seen it displayed upside down !!!
Also, today I saw it to the left of the Michigan State flag.

What gives with these people ?

To add to the Flag and Patriotism focus: Todays Edition of the Arizona Republic Paper has a Feature Story of a Mesa Arizona City Councilman who refuses to recite the Pledge of Allegiance To the Flag of The United States of America!!until all American Troops are pulled out of Iraq. What a Direspectful Moron! I think he should be Horse Whipped along with any one who shares his Unamerican Philosophy.

Hey guys, not bragging now, just stating a fact. Texas, is the only state that can fly the state flag equil to or higher than the American flag.

The thing that bothers me about flying the American Flag is to see one on a staff that has the trailing edge ripped to pieces and the colors faded out. Also that should not be flying at half mast, but on land it should be half staff.

God Bless America....and TEXAS

IBorange in TX, Texas is not the only state that can fly their flag equal to the US flag. Any state can.

NO state, including Texas, can fly their flag higher. Your facts are incorrect.

i don't think our american flag should fly at half staff anytime. not for any person that passed on or for any other reason. our flag should fly at the very top all the time as a symbol of the greatest country on earth.

I can see flying at half staff for these events
like a president dying and others, but giving all goverment employees a day off is a real waste of time and our money. We don't get enough work out of them anyway.

Proper Flag display has been something I try to teach people all the time. Just like calling it Half Mast isnt correct for land based displays, it is Half Staff. I think it is great that so many people want to display the flag but wish more would find out how to do it properly. I know lots of people who have always displayed the flag and it seems that every time we have some sort of disaster/ event that tons more people run out and buy a flag of some sorts and throw it up without any thought about if it is displayed properly or not. At least they are showing it I guess..... ...

This is really a topic for another forum, but since this subject was started, here goes! I feel we 'earthy country types' are the most patriotic people in the U.S. What was the last major unifying event that happend in this country? It was WW2 and it ended in 1945. My dad said that during and after the war no one in the U.S. even thought about degrading our country because the patriotism was so strong. Today a large majority of those strong patriots are gone and the people coming into influence today are two generations away from them. The patriotism to our flag has slipped because of this gap. When I started school back in the late fifties, every morning we said the pledge, with our hands over our hearts, while we stared at the flag on the wall. Today that practice is long lost and so naturally some of the flag ettiquete is gone too. Will the youngsters starting school today even fly the flag? Jim

Sorry Sammy but it seems our government thinks we should fly the flag at half mast for every little thing anymore. I have a new policy. I don't dip my flag for NOBODY. It's fair that way?

The Flag is flown at Half-mast for different lengths of time for different people. The longest length of time is for a President, which is 30 days.It decreases down to the day after the funeral for most. After 9/11, boys from both football teams raised the flag to half-mast at our first home game.I was amazed that they weren't told the proper way to do it,and raised it to half-mast and stopped. You are supposed to raise it to full-mast,then lower it to half-mast.A few Am.Legion members were upset about it,but now at the Veterns Day program,Proper flag handling is taught.John.

Sammy, Presedent ordered all government building, instalation to fly the American flag a half mast. Which does not mean individuals are required to do so. He only has the right and authority to order Fed. property to do so. Flying flag full mast falls under the Freedom of Speech. Sup. Court ruled on this durning the Vietnam war with the flag burners(whom should have been,IMO).It gave the flag burners the right to burn the American Flag, called Freedom of expression under the Freedom of speech.

I know a lot of newer polls can't be lowered to half mass. I know my city bought a lot of them and it caused an uproar.

As a boy in Boy Scouts learning respect for the flag was right up there at the top of things to do. I agree that it hurts me to see the ignorance of people who want to fly the flag, but haven't taken time to read on how to do it or just don't care. The not flying at half mast is the same to me as flying it at night without a light on it. ( I put mine up in the morning an take it down at night.)
