Ok folks, got this 574 out of the woods a few weeks ago after sitting for a few years. Drained 2-4 quarts of water out of the crankcase. Freed up the pistons, changed head gasket and installed new oil line to oil pressure gauge, amazed that the cylinders were still in good shape. Installed new elect. wiring, and started it up. Blew the spin-on oil filter right open!!

I am waiting for the IT manual, but can I assume the pressure switch is located on the oil pump in the oil sump and it is stuck??

First of all is this a gas or diesel?

Somewhere along the oil line there is a pressure regulator that usually is a small piston in a cylinder with spring pressure. Its stuck. Might be behind a hex plug in the side of the crankcase between the pump and the filter. Might be only accessible with the pan off.

Good evening Gerald thanks for the reply

There is a large hex plug (banjo type bolt) just before the oil filter but when I removed it, there was no spring or ball inside that is why I started to think the pressure valve was with the pump

The ones I've seen do have the spring and a small piston with a skirt. No ball. The spring may have been taken out already. Or that may not be the place.

I'm not familiar with IH at all and the pressure regulator could easily be at the pump. Since the engine was stuck and the crankcase had a lot of water the pressure regulator is close to the most precision part in the oil system, toss up with the pump. When the regulator piston can't slide, oil pressure goes up.
