Stupid question but here it goes. I want to find a tractor that has a tired or next to tired engine. The tractor I want to get is one that has an easily adjustable diesel pump that I can adjust to get lots of smoke. My intent is to buy a tractor that I will rebuild and restore but before I do I want to expieremnt first. An suggestions for what diesel tractor is the best to turn up the pump for lots of smoke. Prefer a 4 cyl though

Seems to me most are pretty easy to turn up - but I don't know about the American Bosch pumps. For inline pumps like older CAVs or SIMMs, just yank the side-door off and rotate the plunger-ramps a bit - but do it evenly. On rotary pumps like Roosamaster/Stanadyne - it's a ten minute job to go through the top on older pumps, or through the side on newer ones. On CAV rotary pumps - take just a few minutes by taking off the little access window on side.

Lots of smoke is not really a good thing. What exactly are you getting at here?
