... for a Sat TV dish (Direct TV) and a Sat Internet dish (Hughes). I'm pre-wiring. I know the low grade stuff will cause the TV to tile on some channels. So... what's the good stuff? Thanks, guys.

Put in extra runs of cable to/from the dish location. Or, a conduit that you could pull more cables through later if need be. I did mine and only ran two coax cables (thinking I would only need one for the dish and one for an ariel, if I ever needed that) and was surprised that the Direct TV dish has connections for up to four cables, one for each receiver.

RG-6 Quad Shield. With the proper F - Fittings as they are different than standard RG-6.

I have Hughes Internet service, and it requires a dual coax, one side xmit and one receive. My satellite TV (Direct Tv), also requires dual coax and a land line telephone hookup if you want the DVR service.

Make sure you get the right connectors also....there are specific kinds for specific cables.

Good connectors require a GOOD crimper.

RG-6QS (Quad Shield) is the way to go.

RadioShack sells 3 different grades of RG6 cable. I would not recommend the lowest grade for the run from the dish to the receiver, but it's fine for wiring from the receiver to the set. For the run from the dish to the receiver use one of the better grades. You get what you pay for. The better grades are marked for satellite use.

I had a bunch of RG-59 laying around when I did mine, and since I was running thru conduit I figured I'd give it a try. Dish is about 60 ft from house, and teevee is on other side of house, so it's about a 90 ft run. I've only had it installed for about 9 years, so I don't know if it's going to be a problem or not. Haven't seen any problems due to anything except weather so far. Had lots of folks tell me I'd need the more complete shield coverage of RG-6, but so far it hasn't been an issue. I'm out in the woods, though, far from anything that might cause interference, and I have an older single-LNB dish.

RG-6 is the appropriate cable, although like John says any 75 ohm coax (like RG-59) will work for short distances. Watch out for cable that says "RG-6 type" or something similar. Radio Shack tends to see prettly low quality coaxial cable, and if it says "RG-6 type" or something simililar its not very good quality.

Your local cable TV system uses RG-6 to run from poles to the house and to distribute signals within the house. You might ask if they have some scraps left over, or they might be able to tell you where to get the good stuff.

Again, if the run is short, say a few 10"s of feet, just about anything will work. If you"re going any distance, get the good stuff.

Are you building a house and pre-wiring, or just pre-wiring before they come to install it?

Ive had some fairly long runs from my Dish Net dish to the house n receiver and had nooooo problems using RG 6. The smaller RG 59 is more for short runs in the house out of a box a few feet to the TV

You'll need RG-6 and spend the extra money and get the good connectors, it'll really save a lot of trouble in the end.

I think I used RG6 on mine. Haven't had a problem so far.
