What do think guys?

Young friend that drives for North American van lines was to go get my 1066 this weekend in Nebraska with his personal pickup and trailer.

First he was gonna leave on Wednesday cause they were slow at work. Then a load came up and he took it.(don't blame him for that)

Was gonna leave tomorrow and now we got this yuck coming in.

I think I better keep him home what do you think?

Gary

For what it's worth. I loaded up a brand new Kubota M 105 complete with cab and loader on my 14,000# trailer hooked to my '01 chevy dually. The Kubota weighed in the neighborhood of 8,000#, the loader and cab added another 2,000# or so. I hauled this rig for a distance of about 56 miles. Nice weather, no headwind, never could get up enough speed to shift into 6th gear overdrive except when going downhill, and then had to downshift when the road leveled out. I sure wouldn't have wanted the entire state of Nebraska to have to travel across.

That's a hell of a load for a pickup even a 1 ton with duals. And with ice on the road how you going to stop it if it decides to pass you up on a hill or at a stop sign. I would get a bigger truck to pull it or wait till summer. my friend has a1066 and that's one big heavy tractor to haul. Of coarse if its running you could alway pull the truck and trailer home with it. Walt

No i would wait for better dryer roads my life is worth more than that.

Yeah,

This one is kind of a tough call. Darned things are big and heavy even stripped down like this one is.

I've got a 25' 14K gooseneck and I sure wouldn't load it 'cause it would easily be a ton overweight.

However, Gary's driver is a professional hauler and the trailer is rated at 16.5K GVW. That should put him in just under the limit.

Still and all, I saw a dully tonner tuggin' a dual axle, dual tired trailer with one of these things aboard the other day. Just about all that outfit wanted on dry roads.

Dunno, Gary's call I guess.

Better days ahead. Don't haul it home in all that salt bath on slippery roads. Can be the difference in a fun trip and a nightmare.

I think the last thing you need is to unload an open-stationed tractor off a trailer in a blizzard. Having that tractor in your yard couldn't possible be that urgent.

I believe I would wait.....

or sell it to Allan! hehe

Sounds like he's a professional driver, why not let him make the decision? If you tell him there is no immedeate hurry, then it's his choice, as it should be.

I live about 125 miles North of Grand Island and just south of hwy 20. Right now its colder than crap. Doing chores w/ no cab tractor in -18 wind chill wasnt fun. So if you had trouble it would suck to walk. I think we are just soposed to get like 2-4" up this way and the we are close to the edge of the 4 but going west you get out of it quick.

Keep him home. Also, I'm thinking that 1066 might be a bit big to put on a trailer behind a pick-up. I've had a couple tractors of that size on my gooseneck behind my dually. The truck and trailer did OK, but the headwind played heck with fuel mileage and speed.

He'll have a tail wind loaded. LOL

Allan thats not funny!!!

Its a 16,000 lb trailer with brakes.

The 1066 weighs about 12,000.

It will be aload but no where near over load.

I have a question. Does it matter what his truck GVW is with a 5th wheel trailer? I think it depends on what the truck is as far as a 3/4 ton or 1 ton, long box or short box, engine and what not. I don't remember if you said it was a dually or not, if you said it was then I would guess 1 ton cause I dont' think that's an option in the 3/4. Even if his trailer will handle the load, will he truck still be legal. Just asking bud...

Thanks Darin

That's all that thing weighs? I figured it'd be atleast close to our 1855, that thing tips the scales at 13,300 lbs.

On another topic I already asked on the farmall board, what do you guys thnk a fair price would be for a rough H w/ a loader? My boss asked me if I was interested, he said $1500. Old and a few others on the other board said that's way to high for an H. I'm clueless on IH and Deere's. Give me an Ollie 550 instead, I bet I'd like one of those....

It all depends. A rough H isn't probably worth more than $500 if it runs decent. A loader could run from $50 to $1500 depending on what the loader is. We need much more information.
