My old "swaybacked" garage has been needing some expensive TLC for some time. I figured since work gets slow this time of year, I'd go ahead and get the roof fixed. I'm also gonna add 3 courses of block to the walls so I'll have an inside height of 9 feet.

To do that, the old roof has to come off. Not just the shingles, mind you... Every piece of wood on this ol' thing is getting thrown in that borrowed grain truck. I just parked it down there the other day.

I should've known better than to open up a roof this time of year. Seems every time I have a roofing project, the weather takes a turn for the worse. The report is calling for an Arctic blast of air this weekend.

I guarantee you it's all my fault. : )

I thought it was my fault. I left my project uncovered overnight for the very first time. Woke up this morning to over an inch of snow. Figured I jump-started winter...

Let's go Mountaineers,

the last place I lived I had a 26 by 40 garage, was thinking about taking the whole roof off to make a second floor then put the roof back on. I was going to put some beams under the rafts then hook a crane to it, lift that sucker off. crane rental was $500 a day...in theory needed crane to lift off one day, then later back on...2 days and $1,000 versus about I don't know what maybe a month of tearing it apart then putting it back together...just a thought

Don't stop at just 9 foot as next year your going to be standing in there and thinking darn i should have went just three more feet if not four.

Code only allows me to go nine feet with the size of the footing under it right now.

If I was building a pole barn, It would definately be twice as big as I thought I needed. : )

An idea I've got is raise it up to 9', but then where the overhead door would be, kinda frame that up so a 12' door could go in there. Then you'd be within the 9' limit but be able to drive that truck in with room to spare (atleast overhead anyway)

Just a thought, but it's worth a shot

Ain't that funny its just like the local Morons to think of some silly thing.

A pole barn with no footing can go as high as you want but if you put a footing in then you are limited to hight.
