Farmall M Hydraulic return Question

I have M with belly pump Hyd. It has a rear cylinder which raises a 3 point. The Cylinder has one hose at bottom which is connected to 1 of the 2 1/2" Outlets on the left side of the tractor. I understand both of these connections as well as the one on the right side are all pressure outlets. Problem is, once the line has been pressurized and the cylinder lifted, then the lever control released (Rod pushed all the way down) and no more Hyd pressure applied the cylinder doesnt release (lower) even when we put 400-500lbs of weight on the 3 point. How do I provide pressure relief for the line/cylinder?
Is there a return connection to the reservoir on the tractor I am missing? Should i connect the top fitting on the cylinder to such a return? Any suggestions?

The return line from you valves needs to either go in the outlet at the bottom of the pump or put a T in fill spout.

Are you lifting the control lever over the stop and shoving it on further forward?

Is the cylinder a one-way cylinder?

All the oil moves thru one hose for both directions. Since you got the cylinder to raise, I suspect that the cylinder is okay and that you just aren't releasing it right at the lever.

Is there a possibility that a check valve or line burst valve has been installed on the cylinder that is keeping it from returning? Also, lowering those old systems involved pushing a ball off the seat, and if it had been run to the pressure limit, sometimes takes a pretty good push.

I agree,

Bump that lever with the heel of your hand. It should drop like a rock.

I am pushing the rod past the stop firmly. The pressure is not releasing.
The Cylinder is a Brand New one from Tractors Supply. The pressure is holding it up. If i remove the hose it spews quite strongly.

Are you saying that the pressure relief is back down the output port and I dont need a return to the reservoir

BTW thank you for the time and replies

Nope,

No return hose.

If you're using a two way cylinder (which it sounds like you are), you have to configure the thing to work one way. That is, you have to "vent" the non-use side/port to breathe.

Since it is now plugged, there is nowhere for the air to escape/enter and that side of the piston is holding the ram pretty much where it is. take the plug out of the "off" port and see if that lets 'er go up and down normally.
