I was out harvesting rocks today that you plains farmers forgot to pickup in your rush to leave New England. Thanks alot...
Anyway, I noticed the maple trees above me in this photo are putting out buds! This field with winter rye is starting to look like a golf course fairway in summer.

Anyone out there in the northern states seeing similar signs of spring ? I don't like it one bit. Tain't right I say.

The trees are budding here in Kansas City. Now, wait a few days and we'll have our annual cold shot that will kill a lot of new sprouts.

I'm trying to do my part, boys. The wife and I are building a new energy efficient solar heated home. Cooling will come from drawing air through tubes that run ten feet under ground for 250' (with a traditional A/C for those truly hot and muggy Kansas City summer days). Lots of other energy tricks too numerous to mention here on the radio.

I figure in five to ten years we'll all be driving electric cars and our old tractors will be things that all men will lust over. Power, ooh.

Here in S.C. we usually don't have a whole lot of what the more northern types would consider winter but so far we're milder than usual. Our centipede grass lawn is starting to green up - that shouldn't happen until March. I'm afraid it's in for a surprise. We're sure to get a couple of hard freezes yet.
Good luck, Wm

Pourin rain and some of it's freezing here tonight in northern central Pa. Been in the mid 50s for most of the part 5 days. The mud is deep but my heat bill is better. Less oil being burn't must be reducing greenhouse gasses, maybe that's a good thing.

Yes, it's getting so bad up here in Eastern Ontario (home of the world's longest skating rink) that the natural gas prices are dropping.

Today my wife spent the day painting the railing on our veranda.

I looked at my yearling black walnuts. They aren't budded yet, but there's definite activity in there. Hope they don't freeze off.

January 7th last year I drove my truck across the lake. Now I'm thinking of dropping my bass boat in for a cottage visit next weekend. There is no ice, and it's too muddy for 4X4's.

Keep driving those big diesel tractors and pickups, guys!

The other day I read that some of the Cherry trees in Washington DC were starting to show signs of budding. Is that a VAC Case that I am seeing in front of that boulder wagon?? I've got one sitting up in the grove that could use some serious attention.

Good guess. That's actually a close cousin, the VAI model earning its keep there in the photo. Yep... give your VAC a little attention and she'll take away any growing guilt trip.

Just look at the size of those suckers! Reminds me of an old story which ends up with the punch line-two men and a boy loaded those rocks.
