The Jan/Feb, Red Power has an article on The Fry TD4 dozer. There is no mention of details other than that it is a start on gasoline and then switch to diesel engine. I never heard of a TD 4. Is this like the SHTA?

The T4 and T5 were assembled in Canada from what I´ve read. Never saw mention of a diesel version, but a T4 looks like a tracked 240U, so if there was a TD4, it would have had a smaller engine than an MD, maybe the 166 engine like the 340.

Never heard of a TD4; are you sure you don't mean TD14?

TD4 is a small crawler tractor, has the same 4 cly gas starting diesel as the MD farm tractor. Were a good tractor, a lot of ranches in the sandhills had them.

The TD 6 has the same engine as the Farmall MD. I've never heard of a TD 4.

I wondered that too. Some time back there was a UD-4 power unit with a generator attached to it for sale in the Red Power classifieds. I wondered then what motor it would be -- maybe the Continental D193 like in the 350D? It wasn"t a gas start diesel, though.

There is no listing under the IH crawler section for a TD4. I can't find any reference to it. The article in Red Power gives no detail either.

You are right; I had the wame questions when I saw the article. In fact, I read it twice for some technical/historical info. on the tractor, thinking I'd missed something the first time through. I, too, have never heard of a TD4. I grew up in a town that had a large industrial I-H dealer and my uncle used TD-6's , TD-9's and TD-14's in his logging operation.

But--I have to assume it's a real, bonafide I-H offering. Someone above said that ranchers in the Sand Hills of NE used them.

I do fault "Red Power" for not anticipating the questions that would be raised by the lack of information in the article. I would have required more technical information and historical background before deciding to use the article.
