They smell good too when they aint even got plates on them yet don't they.
Congratulations on a Really nice car.

Congrats, I can't deny liking the retro look of these new mustangs, and the SVT team at Ford/SVT program in whole. They really kept an american muscle car alive, that you can afford if you really want one, and that also has a nice look to it. I was never a real big fan of the old ones, well the standard models at least, but those old GT 500/Cobra models and all the other ones with the added HP were pretty cool in my book. Like that green fastback Steve McQueen drove in that movie.

The GT seemed a bit lame for a long while, but then they brought out the Cobra in '93, then the Cobra R in 95, and every few years after, and now that GT-500, and Mr. Shelby himself was somehow back in the picture right ?, been awhile, I read about it when they first came out. That red GT-500 was really interesting.

I bought a '96 cobra rag top new, was not even on the lot yet and you could not test drive them, and it's got the 4.6 with 4 valve per type heads, boy that 280 cu. in. at a factory 305 hp has enough punch to have some fun, and is plenty enough for me, but I'd take that GT 500 without hesitation. The mach 460 sound system is pretty good for factory, needs an equalizer, but not bad for the average schmo. The '99 model came out and I did not like them as much, body lines did not do it for me, but this latest round of them really seemed to hit the spot on looks. Still a rear wheel drive car that is a lot of fun to keep stock or build, and drive, mine will just roast the tires, does not hook up well if you're heavy on the pedal, darn quick on the highway too, not too mention it sounds nice and gets 26 mpg when you are light on the pedal. Was the first new car I ever bought, never did figure what got into me, was the coolest thing to drive off the lot, something to have at least done once in life I suppose.

I have a 97 ford Ranger we were at the dealers getting it serviced and there was quite a crowd out watching us as we came in. Yep Its quite a beauty with lots of chrome railing and rack behind the rear window and of course its Toreador Red realy stands out in a crowd. I have a little over $25,000 in it with the 4x4 and oversize wheels and heavy duty suspention and 4.0 V-6. Plus full power interior and Mom $685 6-CD player radio.

While Mom was getting things ready for them to do the service I was talking to the Sales manager about the Black thunderbird in the show room.
He says "I'll give you a $1000 and the Bird for your truck"
WOW I'm ready to jump on that deal, But Momma put a big clamper in my spirit when she yelled "nothing doing I like my truck"
Well you can't win them all

My best friend from high school was always obsessing with fast cars. I was 200 miles away on a bowhunting trip the fall of 1973 when they tracked me down to be paulbearer for his funeral.

I wasn't aware you got out of life alive anyways. If this is his thing than more power to him. My dad is always reciting how Alot of people get killed on sport ATVs if he sees me looking at one, and I do have a Mustang, mine is an 1988 GT with the 5.0 and a 5spd, and I occasionally hear people go on about how I am doomed to like such a car because people have died in them, but the truth is we all die someday and it could happen at any second no matter what you do and I have owned my GT for 5 years now and never "wrapped it around a tree" like alot of negative thinking folks though I would when I bought it. I enjoy my Mustang very much and enjoy the quickness it has just driving around town, without any other modifications right now other than a set of flowmaster 40 series street mufflers. I do plan on doing some upgrades in the future, but right now I consider myself very lucky to have the car as is.

This is true, you do have to respect these machines or the above can happen, is really what it boils down to.

Hey, someone ran a light here last week and an innocent woman was killed, just yesterday, good neighor was struck on the sidewalk, by someone who ran a light, he's 70ish, very active and now has 2 broken ankles, laid up, really sucks and it don't matter what yer driving or if yer walking either.

I've enjoyed mine so far, but have respected it, take something like this up to say 140-150 and you'll soon realize the respect factor needed, if yer gunnin it all the time, playin games, being foolish, cause of all the extra power, it might not work out in your favor, just have to respect em a bit and it's something to enjoy, keeping them polished and clean, and all the other tinkering besides driving, we're only here once as far as I know.

Yep, and you can die in a Ford Festiva too. Your right about needing respect, my dad just a day or two ago mentioned a wreck involving a car just like mine back 4yrs ago, but alchohol was involved. It was a father and son who died in it, the owner of the car was the father, but the son was driving and the police figgured out he was speeding down the highway, and lost it at around 130mph, and went right into a utility pole, which they hit so hard they broke that off and continued on into a clump of trees. The wreck was so hard, that it broke the motor loose and that was thrown way beyond the trees out into a field, and everything out front got pushed into the back seat. The car was so twisted and smashed that you really couldn't tell what it was anymore. It was a closed casket funeral and it was a brother and father of one of the kids I knew in high school. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying my car, but they are not for everyone, if you have no self control and are the type that will drive it to the floor all the time, they are not for you, but if you just enjoy having a car thats got a little power to play a little while still trying to be safe, they are alot of fun. I am also proud of the things I do to it to make it look pretty and I am proud of doing most of my own wrenching on it. Make it your motto to have your fun and not hurt anybody and you will be fine.

The good news is getting 500hp out of that engine isn't at all hard. I do believe the has a Kenne Bell supercharger on it, right?. Folks are making more boost with the stock supercharger by changing the drive pully, but Kenne Bell also makes bigger ones for even more boost. The 4.6 is a wickid strong motor, and is much stronger than the 302 (5.0). Heres a video on Youtube sure to have you drooling, said to have 600hp, and it sounds wickid!. I just love the sound of the supercharger when it comes down the street!. Link

Tim,
Engine"s a 4.6 MOD, not a 302. But that don"t matter, there are more speed parts for that engine than you can imagine. Lower end is way stronger than a 302. 6 bolt crank, 4 on the mains and then 2 cross bolts if I remember.

You can upgrade to 4 cam heads and a supercharger and you will have 500hp easy.

Just be good with a laptop cause thats how you will adjust the fuel curve after you add all your performance parts. No more jetting holleys.

Have fun,
Rick

Thats a nice car Tim, but it ain't a 302 if it's stock. And 0-100 in 200 yards? Why buy a GT500? LOL.

The engines in those cars aren"t 302"s anymore. They"re 4.6 liter engines with, I think, three valves per cylinder. They pack a wallop and are some good running cars. Check out the Jack Roush superchargers and body kits. You can make a REALLY nice car using those items. Tim

If the 07 still uses the 8.8 rear end I got a set of 3.73 gears for him. He sounds like my FIL. He drives a convertable Trans Am.
