Is there any way to get Diff locking on a 4010? There seems to be some affully good looking machines at there for a very resenable price, the only thing is I need diff locking!!!
It seem doable IF and ONLY IF, a 4020 differetial will fit in a 4010....Is the replacment Differintial for the 4010 a 4020 part number, sort of like the 4010 Engine over haul?

Price a good 4230 with the Sound Guard Body. They go for little more $$$ than a 4020 and are a better machine.

Where? All I see are at least $8000 more than I have in my gas 4020, not side console.

Really???
I though the 4230 had a problem with the hydrolcs, evry time you mash the clutch you loose hydrolics..

Wrong and wrong. First of all its spelled hydraulics. 2nd the 30 and later series had a constant running-live transmission hydraulic charge pump. The 10 and 20 series would loose the low pressure supply to the high pressure pump inlet once the small reservoir about the high pressure pump ran dry. If the clutch pedal was depressed for any period of time during high flow hydraulic loads. A 4230 is certainly no more expensive than a 4020 console diesel. Or a console gasser 4020 with a combine engine swapped in. Plus it has diff lock and a nice quiet cab.

The 4020 differential lock uses hydraulics in passages cast and drilled into the case. Those would be hard to add to the 4010 case even if it would accept the 4020 final parts which I doubt it would. I do have the earlly 4020 parts book but it doesn't cover the 4010 part. The early 4020 shop manual does cover the 4010 so conceptually the two aren't far apart except in places, like the PTO and the hydraulic remote connectors.

The differences in 4010 and early 4020 prices aren't often very much so it would seem to be worth looking for an early 4020 with differential lock. I find that differential lock handy when doing all kinds of field work and its NOT for sale.

Still you can buy several years of supply of gasoline for the premium cost of a diesel 4020 and the gas tractor will do as much work per hour. And the gas tractor starts easier in cold weather. Besides which the gas tractor can run on propane or methane from a digester or ethanol from a grain still. Granted a diesel can run on soy biodiesel, but when I bought my gas 4020 8 or more years ago, soy biodiesel wasn't publically available.

I know how to tune a gas engine and my 4020 responded well to a good tune up and I've learned that the governor ring of the original 4020 diesel injection pump has failed in most, leading to a $500 rebuild bill that will buy a whole heap of plugs, points, and wires for my gas 4020.

The used equipment dealer I bought my gas 4020 from claimed it came from an old timer who decided he wanted to have a diesel just because. It did need considerable tuning but the price was reasonable and it works as hard as I need it to work.

Yeah you know it is REALLY Debatable as to wheather I need a Diesel or not. It is really a matter of what I want.

They madetwo different size gas engines one that is 340, and one that is 362....which one do I have being the serial number SNT211R103164 ?
Would you know this?

I believe the change in engine size was at SN203,000, the '69 model beginning with the side console. Your SN is 103164 so is the smaller engine. That engine has the crankcase ventilation pump. The later engine doesn't.
