We live in a very densely deer populated area of Michigan. When the little horns came out we bought a pair or two and they were not worth a nickle. The best deterant I've found is the horn of a Honda auto and second best seems to be a Subaru. We have had them run into all of the big three products and even had a deer try to jump a Chevy Celebrty, which was a real piece of junk.
Don't waste your money on the little horns.
My first 2 cents worth in 2007

Yesterday was the last day of deer season here. We don't have to worry about them again 'til August.

A heavy brush guard (homemade) for cattle& pushing hay wagons works! Three deer in freezer one broken headlight.

Years ago I worked ata company that built feed trailers. I asked the driver picking up one if the whistles on his truck worked. He said they must . He had hit one deer before getting them, and two since!

I have heard that they dont really work becasue a deer that is barrelling along at full run is not disturbed by a whistle noise on a car going 60MPH. I wrecked by 02 saturn 2 years ago, I didnt have a deer whistle but I doubt it would have helped me.

{If you really believe... }

I like that response.

When hunting, you can occasionally get a moving deer to stop by whistling. So, will he stop in your lane or off to the side of the road?

Second observation: cats. I like cats, but the durned things WATCH you coming and then try and dart out at the last minute. Perhaps deer, being used to having a speed advantage, know the car/truck is approaching but figure thay can out maneuver it and/or lead it away from the spot.

Locally: folks who have them and have hit deer have less faith in them than folks who have them and haven't yet hit a deer. ;-)

Anyone old enough to remember the "Witch Deflector" buttons we used to get at the Saturday Matinee horror movies? Same principle.

I have seen does stop and look at the telephone company vehicle I was driving. I NEVER obseved a buck stop and look. It just depends on what is on the deer's mind at the time. Deer do not know how mfast you are moving.

When my Son-In-law worked for a Body Shop in Broken Bow, Ne,. some old rancher with less than 500 miles on a new Buick hit a Deer and wanted the Whistles put on when they rebuilt it.

In the two years the S-I-L worked there he rebuilt the front end of the same vehicle 2 more time for the same reason. He said it took the same parts all three times except the last two times he had to replace the whistles also.

Yeah,

The body shop guys just laugh themselves crazy over the deer whistle thing.

They say that the owners always demand those whistles put back on after they just went thru thousands in damage from hitting deer. :>)
