I did a compression test on my H, I had the throttle wide open, did a dry test cranked her over about 3 times, 90psi start to 135psi finish all cylinders ran 130 to 135. My question is what numbers am I looking for, book says 5.9 to 1 I don't understand?? thanks

That compression is good in my book. My H with fresh overhaul and the distillate head ran about 115 psi cold. I have never checked it since - should be a little higher now that it's broke in.

Look here for tune-up specs.

5.9 to 1 is the compression ratio not to be confused with the compression reading. 135 is good and 90 is ok. I would now do a wet test and see if the readings come up. If they don't you may have leaking valves. If they do , on the lower reading cyls., you might have more wear or sticky rings. At 90 lbs., I guess I wouldn't worry about it unless it's using a fair amount of oil. Remember, it's an old tractor.

Ken, tractor doesn't use any oil or smoke on start-up but starting to see some fluffy carbon deposits on plugs, using a d18y champ plug which is a hot plug ,maybe replacing thermostat will help.

5.9 is the compression ratio; not to be confused with actual compression.
Your readings of 135 pounds of cranking compression are excellent!
Make sure the timing is set to fire at top dead center at cranking speed, adjust the carburetor and you are good to go.
