A neighbor that is not on line that runs a small 1 man scrap yard has just goyyen in some items that we think are worth more than scrap price but we do not know what he should ask for them. 1, a pair of 6" wide by 36" diameter drop center rims, only surface rust, no major rust and never have been welded on. 2, A pair of Fordson Steel rims with lugs, some pothole rust through spots that can be repaired, no signs they ever had centers in them, possibly used as duals. 3, Farmal F 20 or F 30 cutoff wheel with 36" rim, no rust through showing and this rim has a old style closed tread Firestone tire 13 X 36" ( about 1/2 tread) on it but the tire has a puncture hole through the sidewall that I have seen holes like that ( approximatly 4") patched by fastening a piece of sidewall of a newer tire inside of the hole, stem of tube shows no sign of rust or calcium.
To sell them from the yard or to take them to a tractor show consignment auction in the spring what kind of a price or reserve should he put on them, items are in northwest Ohio.

Morning Leroy.

Ultradog had some good comments. Any reserve should cover the expended and your friends value. Ie scrap price. E-bay is one good way to do this but if you try to 'gild a lilly' there it will come back to bite you in the rear.

Local auction would work well also.

Don't know about the bare rims never seen anything like that sell. That is a odd size especially if they are deep centers. Are they NOS from a blacksmith shop? Ebay would be best with these. Delivery is a issue though.

You are throwing me a bit of a blank with the Fordson wheels. As I picture them Fordson wheels had spokes to a hub in the center. All one unit. They should bring at least $200 if they are tractor rear wheels. but set your reserve at scrap plus milage.

Don't even mess with the F20 cutoffs. Cutoffs aren't worth anymore than scrap and the tire will make it worthless. Any tire you have seen patched like what ou are talking about was done either because it was the old super shallow design and/or to match a mate.

I don't know how much Ebaying you do but whenever I see something that I know has some value to old tractor folks I will put it on Ebay with scrap value as the minimum bid.
I aint attached to the thing - just want someone who needs it to have a crack at it before it gets melted down.
Sometimes you get lucky and make a little dough.
Sometimes you don't get a bid. But Ebay puts it before a HUGE audience who may want it.
For the part it's like the man who gets his case reviewed one more time before he goes to the gallows.
