It has just started to get more noticeable in the last few weeks.

Signal lights blink normal 2 or 3 times then very slow (2 seconds or more) for 2 or 3 blinks... this repeats.

Is the flasher going bad ?

Update...

One side was somewhat worse than the other... but both sides had a pause every so often. I checked all bulbs and found one with the glass part of the bulb loose from the metal socket. This must have been an original bulb... I had a heck of a time getting it out.

I also replaced the flasher. It had a loud klink and now it's whisper quiet. No more pause at all on either side.

Thanks for the replies.

Quick, no-cost test. Does it act the same in both directions(left& right)? Possible, but not likely that bulbs on both sides would fail at the same time. How about the hazzard flashers? If hazzards work normal, bulbs & wiring are ok. Next no-cost test is to unplug & swap flashers with hazzards. If the trouble follows where you put the flashers, you have found the trouble.

Check all of the connections meaning every bulb front and rear it could be that one is loose creating a break in the circut. I'll give you a warning as well if you haven't had any problems out of the rear lighting yet you will eventually but dont trade it off or sell it just because of it. GM used some really small guage wiring for the rear lighting and fuel tank sender and they all seem to short out pickups and Suburbans but if you use a 14ga and rewire the thing you wont ever have the problem again. I have had 4 GM trucks and 1 91 Suburban all of them had this problem and it was even worse if it was hooked to a trailer plug.

could there be a bulb out? my '89 Nissan has a different cadence when a light isn't working.
