The backhoe boom moves to the right but not the left. When I switch the hoses, the boom moves to the left but not the right.

Any ideas on what is wrong?

Do I need to take the valve bank apart and replace a spool?

Air flows through the hoses.

Is something plugged in the valve bank possibly?

Is it possible to clean the valve bank without taking it all apart?

Where can I find parts for this?

Thanks for your help.

I am going to tell you 2 things. The first is somewhere I have a service manual for those backhoes that covers only the hydraulics. I probably can not find it fast enough to help you this time> Next thing a lot of backhoe valves have work port relief valves in the casting, That would be the first thing I would look for. Do you have a valve casting number or name? The last place I would look is the spool and no it is not plugged otherwise the oil would not go bavck when you move it. I will try to sent you an e-mail. J.

Thanks for your comments.

I found some literature. I think the valve bank is a Model 3142. I also found a troubleshooting chart. The chart indicates that no sideway movement of the boom may be due to failure of a swing circuit relief valve or a swing circuit anti-cavitation valve.

Do you suppose these types of parts are IH (now Komatsu) dealer items or would I have to find the valve bank manufacturer?

Hope this means something but probaly not.Ford and Kelly and one or maybe two others used a valve body in the mid 80s to early 90s that had a bad problem with SOMETHING(dirt, casting sand or????)getting into a valve and making it Bypass. They were a Cartrage type unit that could be washed out and put back in and would work 95% of the time.If you have a Ford Ind.Dealer close you might check with him for that valve.Hope this might help but good luck anyway.
