Any help would be much apreciated. The tractor (grey te-20 petrol)
starts on full choke when cold but then struggles to keep running. I have had it running until warm and then it will start with not choke and idle throttle. The tractor will then run fine and randomly stop without warning after about 30s or so. It will then start again easily and then again stop after about 30s again. It is really confussing and i have no idea what is happeneing with it. Thanks for your time Luke

You could have a fuel delivery problem but I'd statr by checking the spark when it dies on you. Pull the center lead out of the distributor cap, hold it near a good ground and try a start. You should have a FAT BLUISH WHITE SPARK. I you don't start by checking the primary ignition circuit(Battery through to the distributor, including the key switch ) look for loose or dirty connections dirty, corroded, or maladjsuted points, etc.
If you have a FAT BLUISH WHITE SPARK, then check the fuel delivery as Don suggested.

Check to make sure the choke is coming off all the way.If it"s a manual choke maybe it"s out of adjustment(the cable slipped).Auto choke check for adjustment as well.Could be it"s time for a carb overhaul,or maybe water in the fuel.Is there black smoke when it"s running?

Sounds like the fuel line is blocked and not letting enough gas get to the carb. Remove the plug on the bottom of the bowl on the carb and there should be a steady, full flow for more then a few seconds. Remove the line from the tank and blow it out, check the screen(s) in the sediment bowl and most carbs have one in the elbow in the carb where the line connnects.
