When I was a kid I use to go with my dad and all the thermo kings he pulled then were 50HP 4 cylinder diesel but I"m not sure who they were made by. hope this helps.

I have run into anything from perkins to kubota. Yanmar now adays. Thermoking did make their own diesels for a very very short time back in the 60's /70's. Most thermokings are aroudn 25hp for a very short truck to 40 horse for the 48-53 fters

I heard that they could also be used to repower ALLIS G. I went looking and the guys at the trailer shop thought I was CRAZY. I guess another goose chase chalked up to experience.

Earlier post indicated it might be Isuzu. I did drive one of those little trucks for 12 years. Good truck. Mine had 48 HP.

they are an Isuzu motor. It could be a Mercedes if OLD enough.1970 and earlier. The most common are the Isuzu C201 model. If it's direct injected, it's the newer 199+ version. The older C201 is the same motor that the Chevy Luv diesels had. That one has a Bosch pump. Can't remember the ratings on it but have the rebuild manual collecting dust at the shop. If you want, I can dig it up tomorrow. Dependable little horses. Still have some parts laying around somewhere. Gotta get to Xmas. Merry and happy all. Fred

My uncle's boss took one of those about 40 years ago and put it into a pickup. I think it was 35 to 40 horsepower. He owned a plastics factory and had toolroom equipment to make the conversion. I think it would only go about 45 which was plenty fast for what he wanted to do with it and got very good fuel economy. For an automotive application, I think the governor might not work the best, but on a stationary or constant speed application, it should work fine.

A friend of mine re-powered a garden tractor with one of those engines.

You could order a generator from Nothern Tool to mate up to it. I think I saw a scale JD R that the builder used on of those engines in.

The reefers we use at work have Kubota diesels in 'em. Don't recall if they're ThermoKings or not.

Highly likely it's either a Kubota or a Yanmar. Either is a dandy little engine.

The older TK's had "Thermo King" cast right into the engine block. Not sure if they cast their own, or had the engines made to their "spec's", with their name cast in.

I bought several old 'reefer" trailers for storage, and two came with running refrigeration units, one thermo king the other I dont remember.
The mechanic at the place where I bought them said the engines were Asian built, one With TK cast into the block like Bob says. The mechanic said they are about 35 hp and run at low rpm in the reefer. The mechanic said they have little more than scrap value as everyone wants the combination diesel/electric units so they can plug them in when parked for a while. They sure are a nice running little diesel, must be some use for them. About the only odd part to work around is the overly large oil pan. The mechanic said with constant load, low rpm and clean conditions with a big oil supply, those engines normally run 20,000 hrs between rebuilds.
