what would you buy to pull a 3,500-4,500 gallon sh!t speader? my brotherin-law is using a 656 deisel to pull a 1,500 gal. right now..and wants something a bit bigger.. would have to be an IH, case or case IH for under 15,000.. can"t be two wheel drive, too muddy.. and needs to pull the spreader with ease.. and a deisle if possible..
thanks for the input! Tim Shultz

I agree with the boys from Iowa, an older articulated tractor

The 3,000 gal spreader was always pulled by the international hydro 100. The heaver you load it the better traction it got. Keep it full and it won't slush around and pull harder.... 1466 will work. your looking at around 40,000lb behind that tractor plus the weight of the tractor. You can get into trouble quick and easy. Trust me I know

Tim-look into a Case 2470. They are cheap, around $4,000 to $6,000. They have about 180 hp, powershift in each range, and 4 wheel drive. They are not the most comfortable tractor by far, but they are reliable and get the job done. Pto and 3 point were optional. I bought a really cheap one about 4 years ago. All I have done is replaced a few u-joints and hydraulic hoses. I was cautioned by previous 2470 owners to make sure the vents on the differentials do not get plugged, but that was the only real concern passed along to me.

12 yrs ago I pulled a 3500gal BetterBuilt with a 1086 in some soft ground. It handled it well in the field, it was scary on the road. I pulled it once with a White 2-105, it just wasn't enough tractor, it had the power, but it just didn't handle it well.

I would look for a 5088 w mfwd, but the 15K kind of limits you. Maybe a 2294 Case?

I think the best idea is what the other guys are saying about a 2+2. A 3388 would be perfect for the job, and decent ones can be found for under $10k.

Shoot I have a case 930 that would handle it well and its ony 2 wheel drive but the rear tires are 23.1X26s so mud is never a problem for it. Its for sale by the way and a lot less then the $15,000 you say hes willing to spend. Shoot the price is less then 1/3 of that. It even comes with a good spare tire to boot

A 2 + 2 would probably work as good as anything.

I agree with RAW.

Either a 2+2 or and older full sized 4WD articulated with PTO.

All newer MFWD are to high for your budget.
