This is off topic but I posted in Classic Trucks and didn't get much of a reponse. A guy wants me to haul trash to the dump. I'm trying to find out what the going rate to charge per mile is. Driver time and dump charges will be billed seperately. I'm just trying to find out how much to charge per mile for my truck. The truck is an IH Loadstar 1800 dump. Load capacity 5 tons. Thanks, John

I charge by the hour. It's about the only real fair way to go. With a tandem, I won't work for less than 60 (Cad) an hour, which would be about 15 % exchange. With my truck, hauling heavy, fully half that goes into the tank... but that's with an N14-435. If you've got an old DT466 or something that's good on fuel, you might take longer, but you'll burn quite a bit less fuel. The N14 gets there fast, but it costs... There's no need to work too cheap, because it'll only cost you in the end.

When I retired from dump trucking I was getting $55 per hour and that was back in 2000 so I would think with fuel prices that the going rate would be more like $60-75 and hour.

50 to 60 per hour is fair. Also if the area you are hauling to could be bad for puntured tires take it into account. 1 tire can cost you your profits!

Most dump truck time is charged by the hour. A single axle in my area of MI is about $50.00 per hr.
