....version of Silent Night? Drove back and forth from Michigan to Des Moines, IA last week with my youngest daughter and we kept hearing a country version that was kinda upbeat. Man singing with a female backup. My kid liked it a lot so I thought I would get the CD for her but they just don't play it here in SE Michigan so I have no idea who the artist is. Anyone over that way listen to the all Christmas channels know? By the way, for those living in the area, not only is Iowa one of the prettiest states along I-80 but the people in Des Moines were exceptionally hospitable. Even got invited to go up to the top of the tallest building in town to see the Christmas lights...all arranged by complete strangers. Friendly town. Any help appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

We Usually Sing Silent Night Without Music At Our Little Country Church On Christmas Eve Service, But My Pastor Says That When Franz Gruber Wrote The Music To It That The Organ Was Broken And They Used A Guitar Or Stringed Instrument Of That Time, And The Music Was Written For That Instrument. That May Be Why It Sounds Good With These Bands Playing It. I Am To Play It This Year On Guitar Along With The Congregation Singing. Gene

Just turned 40, so I was a teen in the 80's. Twisted Sister just came out with a Christmas album, and for us "hair band" lovers it is just like being a kid while still being a dad. Mike

Dave: Merry Christmas, and most Happy and Prosporus New Year. My favourite version has always my own rendition while milking the cows on Christmas Eve. Now, I will agree I always had a few neighbors show up with starting fluid, but they also joined in the singing. My dad and I have had as many as 10 singers in our Christmas Eve barn concert. Bear in mind most of these guys sang in a male choir.

Whether the cows gave more milk on Christmas morning, cant say, we never got into actual recording milk on Christmas Day.

I can't for the life of me recall which Christmas song or band. However it was some normally bent and twisted heavy metal or hard rock band that recorded a Christmas song. And it sounded suprisingly good.

B&D, I'm not sure if it's the one you're thinking about, but a heavy metal band named Savatage did a version of"Midnight in Sarajevo".I never thought I would like a Christmas song by a metal band, but I have to say, that song is powerful.Manhiem Steamroller does a more mellow version.

Buck, your thinking of the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I went to see them last year and it was great. I took my mother for a christmas present. I was glad she is into rock and roll because it was like watching a heavy metal christmas concert with all the volume, lights and pizzaz. They sold out two shows in Grand Rapids and them another two in Auburn hills the next week. I think there are only a couple of guys from savatage in the band. They have about 50 people in that show and it is awesome. Later.

Hi Davpal, Yes, you are right.TSO.I got mixed up.I did have a copy of the Savatage version, can't seem to locate it right now.It was a little heavier than the TSO version. I like them both.

I like pretty much any version done by a church choir. Also, although it is a bit depressing, I like Simon & Garfunkel's Silent Night/6 O'clock news.

Dave,

Thanks for the compliments on our state and frendly people. I will keep my ears open for that song and let you know if I find out what it is.
