i have a 1986 4X4 chevy pickup short bed 350ci 700R trans. my trans is shot in the truck and i want to replace it. i have a complete 350 turbo trans & transfer case out of a all wheel drive 1977 blazer. whats it going to take to get the 350 turbo bolted up in my truck. will the 350 trans bolt right up to the newer transfer case?. or would i have to use the old all wheel drive transfer case?. im thinking i would have drive shaft lenght prombloms if i go with the all wheel drive case. plus i really dont want the all wheel drive in my truck. what route do you'all think i should take.

Without looking at my GM charts - there are a few possible mismatches involved. #1 - the splines on the newer NP208 transfer-case might not match the splines on the 1978 TH350 trans. #2 - if you use the older full-time transfer-case - I wouldn't call coverting it to part-time 4WD easy or cheap. It takes a good amount of work and cost some pretty big-bucks for a good change-over kit. The low-priced kits are awful. Prices range from $100 to over $500 for kits. You might want to check on the possible spline mismatch. There are custom input shafts made for the transmissions, and also custom outputs for the transfer cases - but all that stuff cost money and is time-cosuming. For example, up to the middle of 1978 - manual trans. in 4WD had 10 spline outputs and then changed to 32 spline. Some NP208 transfer cases have 32 spline for use with a TH400 trans, but use 27 spline for use with a TH350 or 700R4. NP205 came with 27 spline for the TH350 and 32 spline for a TH400 and also 10 spline for a TH400 or a SM465. I'm not sure exactly sure what the 203 uses for output splines. I have a 78 with the 203 and TH350 trans but it's all original and I have no idea what's inside. I do know that some people are building a sort of dual-transfer case made by joining a 203 to a 208. Also - is seems to me the 203 is about the least durable or useful as ocmpared to the 205, 208, or 241.

If you decide to go with the 203 from the blazer, look at the shifter linkage location first. I'm not sure the tunnel in your pickup has a knockout for the 203 shifter anymore. If it does, the entire undercarriage from the blazer can be bolted into the pickup.

Arguably the axles in the blazer are a little better than the ones in your pickup. The 203 trans case can be made "part time" 4x4 very easily.

Perry,

I totally disagree with the way you're going about it, but hey! It's your truck. :>)

It will bolt right up; not an 1/8 of an inch in difference. Use the tranny/transfer case adaptor that is in the truck now.

Then, all ya gotta do is add the proper kick down cable and some vacumn to that modulator and you're in business.

Allan
