A scammer tried to hook me today with a trick I had not seen before. I was selling a plow that was ending tonight, and I recieved a message through ebay from a guy that said he was interested in my "item", but he had seen an identical item for sale and he was confused. He posted a link to that item so I could check it out. When I clicked on the link, the Ebay sign-on page came up. Since I was already signed in, that seemed strange. I made sure I was signed in, and hit the link again- same thing. I guess he wanted my user name and password so possibly he could collect my money from the sale? I don"t know, but I responded by saying "nice try", and congratulated him on a well thought out scam. I also told him I would report him to Ebay, but it probably won"t do any good. Either way, I was reminded to be carefull, and change my password often.

Nope, same old trick! You used a LINK to go to a site that asked for your ID and password, same old one you get in your emails. I have said this before, NEVER EVER enter your password or ID to a site that you used a LINK to get to! I usually will purposely enter an incorrect password to my paypal account just to make sure I am not on a scam site.

Most of the time (in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, anyway), you can see the actual HTTP target behind a hyperlink presented to you by hovering the mouse pointer over the link and then looking at the bottom left hand corner to see where it actually going to send you.

It's important to put in a feed back on eBay of the worst kind so others can learn what you learned..

The scammer no doubt "hacked" a good seller's account.

So, how is leaving bad feedback going to help?

It would only link back the the account of the person who's ID had been compromised, NOT the scammer, who is probably overseas somewhere!

Ebay is really getting out of hand with the scams, one good thing though,I was outbid on a truck I wanted, but I should be able to get it now with the 11 second chance offers I got on it yesterday.

I love second chance offers. They always say they will be glad to sell the "item" to me for what my last bid was. My reply:

I will gladly pay to you what the "item" was valued at when I made my FIRST bid. As you obviously were the only other bidder and thought you could run me up I am sure you will be happy to close this deal immediately.

I never hear from them again.
