You guys were asking about grinding feed the other day.

I grind it right out of the wagons I picked into.

And this mill is a load for the 560.

The 1066 will handle it much better.

I used dads 856 for grinding till Mom sold it at his auction. It would load the grinder in a third of the time it takes with the 560.

But 1 hour week ain't that big of deal I guess.

Gary

We have a New Holland 352 mixer mill - 12 inch, of course. The H is about the right size for it, a real nice steady load for the tractor and fuel efficient. 544 is easier to operate, but the loader gets in the way when manuevering in the corrals. On ours you can disengage the mill for unloading as well - can also load through the rear chute without grinding.

Good gosh when I was a late teenager, early 20's we pulled one of those Geils with an H and F 20, it is at my Uncles in the barn some where about 45 years old.

Hi Jimmy

Yeah we used to pull our old one with a 460 but.

That one was a 12 wide mill this one is 21 inches.

Theres very few F20's that will pull this one.

You can pull down 100 HP with this one.

A F20 will pull it but you won't feed it very fast.

Ex when I filled it with the 856 it took about 7 minutes to fill.

With the 560 it takes about 20 minutes.

You guys got my curiosity up, so I went and measured mine. It's 18", with an 8" auger feeding it. Even with the 4020 running it, I don't think it's as fast as your time (never timed it though). It's got orbital motors on all the augers, and I always thought they were slow, but they do work. Takes an eternity to unload a 2 ton batch, and that's what I really don't like about not being able to shut the mill down.

Gary, when I was at home and we ground for hogs and cattle, we used a 400D on a papec grinder that drove with a car tire. No auger to the grinder. You had to scoop all of it. 200 to 400 bu a week. I dreamed about having an auger to the grinder. Dad didn't think it was necessary. Later we used a 560D on it then a 706G. A neighbor has it now and runs it with a 1586. That grindermixer must be 45yrs old. Could really make the black smoke roll with that 400D.

Good looking 560. I spent alot of time on one of those when I was a kid. When we got in the early 60s I thought it was huge. Denny

Can't speak for you area, but not many guys grind their own feed around here anymore. Picked up a Lorenz 100 bu. grinder this spring to save me a little money on feed. It seems to grind $3+ corn as easily as $1.50, but I prefer the $1.50 myself. Usually put an 830 case on it, but a 4020 is noticeably faster. Previous owner did use an 856 on it. Only thing I don't like about the Lorenz is the mill runs constantly, can't disengage while unloading. Good pic, just don't see that kind of thing aroundd here.

Yes Gehl will allow you to disengage the mill to unload the feed.

Back when I had hogs I would grind 4 to 8 loads a week but now its just about 1 load of ground ear corn a week from weaning till March when I sell the calves.
