Does anyone do blasting for the public? I have a customer with a tandem axle dump truck that wants the bed blasted and I've no idea how to price it.
My compressor will do it but my pressure pot size may be small so I would suppose alot of time spent will be filling the pot LOL.
Thanks for any help.

How many CFM is the comp? how much sand does the pot hold ? What size is the nozzle? I ran a sandblasting & painting business over 20 years. I still have a 185 CFM compressor , 350 lb sand valve pushing a 5/16 inch nozzle. I don't do public work any more but if I did I'd charge 100 per hour. I hire most of my blasting done by a guy with 900 CFM . 1000 lb pot pushing a 1/2 inch nozzle. It is cheaper to hire him than it is to pay my expenses for bigger jobs.
Grandpa always said when you hire something done ( like bulldozing) get the biggest and it will be the cheapest in the long run

Here in north Iowa, there is a large sand blaster that does state jobs and has done many trucks of all types including concrete mixers.
e-mail me and I'll fill you in if you want to go this far.

The guy that does a lot around here gets $75 a hour plus the cost of the sand on big jobs.

But he does have a big commercial set up and gets a lot done in an hour.

15' truck box takes him about 3 to 4 hours.Inside and out.

IaGary:

Who does sandblasting around here? I have been going to a guy south of Riverside, and I would like to find someone closer and less expensive.

Thanks

I'm sure there would be someone in your area that does tuckpointing and similar, or maybe someone that contracts with the county or state roads dept. for sandblasting and repainting bridges. most of these contractors are looking for work in the off-season, and would have the equipment needed to do that truck box.

In this areaof extreme western NC and eastern Tenn a good sandblaster gets $75 an hour olus sand and can do most jobs on large machinery in 2-3 hours. Did a Farmall M for me and did it well in 1 and 1/2 hour with rhree bags of sand. A REAL BARGAIN IF YOU HAVE EVER DONE ANY YOURSELF>
