Hi Gang;
The Nuffield tractors were built in England by the Morris Motor Company (cars, trucks & vans).
Designed in the late 1940's taking all the "best" designs available at the time. The 4 cylinder Universal 4 was the 1st model with either diesel or gasoline/vaporising oil engines.
In the mid-1950's to compete with the smaller sized Ferguson & Fordson & David Browns they released this 342 model, 3 cyl diesel 42HP gross.
5 forward & 1 reverse gear.
It was larger in size than the oposition, and didnt sell in vast numbers, though was well built and spec'ed. Later they made a 1042 with hi&lo giving 10F & 2 R gears. The front weight frame is non-standard.
Note the stone built farm house behind.
Cheers David

Nice little tractor David. What's that round thing I see on side by foot plate? Belt pulley?

Joe & Others, Not a lot of time was spent in thought, it was very spur of the moment, when I first came to Y.T and used NEsota for a handle. The NE is the official postal abbreviation for the great state of Nebraska (as they would say at a political convention). “sota” most people get that right. I have lived in Minneapolis since 1968 but my heart is at my great-grandfather’s home stead (1867) in S.E. Nebraska. My wife and I own it now and operate it long distance.

Dave, The tractor-interesting history. Will you tell us what you can about the stone house. Stone work above the windows required a real craftsman, I should think.
