I,m thinking of purchasing an 801,its got what I need with it,but it does not have a loader,it has all the hydraulics, can a loader be easily put on this tractor and are there used ones out there that are built to mount on this tractor?
Its a 58 ford 801 powermaster 5 speed trans he thought it has live hydraulics, did this tractor come with that option?

801s are fine tractors for front loaders for light-ish duty work.

The hardest thing about putting a loader on the 851 you are looking at is likely to be finding a decent loader for it. (No special front mount will be needed - the loader will bolt to the front axle support of the tractor; pump will run off a shaft to the front motor pulley.)

Also, power steering is important for a loader tractor, and if the tractor does not already have it, a good used power steering package will be hard to find. New I believe is around $1200.

For these reasons, I would keep looking for a tractor that already has a loader.

I have and have had an 801 series 841 model ford since around 1982 with a loader. I use it all the time and its a good tractor with the loader on it. My 841 also has a sherman combo tranny. All 801s have live hyds on them. That one may or may not have live PTO depend on what model it is. Also with a loader you want a front type hyd pump since the one board hyds will be very slow. Also power steering is a must for a tractor with a loader or you will either have sore arms or begin to look like the hulk

If you need more info one the 801 just let me know I have the owners manual for one. The loader I have is a heavy duty one and will lift way more then what the tractor its self will handle. I can lift so much weight that if I don't watch I can flip the tractor over doing so which of course isn't a good thing to do. I use mine to plow snow and move round bales, my bales weigh around 2000lbs and thats about all the more I want to lift with it becuase if I hit a bump with a bale on it can make a back tire come up off the ground and thats not a nice feeling

Thanks again,From what I've have fiqured out is that it is a 851 model,If I ad a front pump can I use the sump that is built in or do I have to put another tank on for fluid,And does the loader uprights brackets bolt on to the sides of the center of the tractor there are 3 holes i think about 5/8" or does it mount back to the rear end?

Most loaders use the frame of the loader for the tank. As far as mounts most mount up front and under the rear axle the holes on the side are not used for a loader. If its an 851 that means it doesn't have LIVE PTO/2 stage clutch. But does have live hyds so the 3 point works as long as the engine is running

Well I will have to decide if its worth buying and putting the time and money into or just keep looking for the right tractor with a loader already on it.I am putting a small loader on a Allis Chalmers IB right now with a front pump but it wont be able to do the heavy work.I can buy this Ford for $2800,Its a nice clean tractor runs and drives great with lots of implements I was hoping putting a loader on was a simple job. Thanks for the info.

Mounting a loader isn't all that bad if, and heres the big part you have the right equipment. A loader can add 1000-2000LBS to a tractor, thats the reason you need the power steering. If you don't have some sort of way to pick up the loader they can be very hard to put on. I have had this loader off once and we used another tractor with loader to remove and then reinstall it. As I said before this laoder is a very heavy duty one and in the past I have picked up complete cars with it the size of an old pinto and could lift it up high enough to put on top of some thing 10 foot high.

I looked into that very thing this spring. Decided it was too much. The front bracket is some thing special. Tractor is great, but not realy built for a loader. Others may have other ideas.

I guess I was spoilt, never have run a loader tractor with power steering. We had, over the years,F-10 Farmhand loaders on 2 Fergusons, one Farmall and one Cockshutt.

Power Steering on a Cockshutt? What model? That's one thing I haven't seen.

Dan; Hate to dissapoint you but no power steering on the Cockshutt or any of the tractors mentioned in my post. The 1948 Cockshutt 30 did have lpto. The other tractors were a TE-20 & a TO-30 Fergusons and a 1939 M Farmall. Altho they couldnt lift as much I preferred the Fergusons.
