How 'bout I plan on a hybrid of two of the ideas...

1. 1/2" short nipple or however long as necessary,

2. Connector of some king with the 5" long 1/2 NPT screwed into that.

I have about 3.75 inches into the head before I hit any metal, 3.5 to be safe. So if the nipple apparatus gets me 2" than that leaves me 3" still right up in the head where it will do the most good.

What do you think, hope the paint creation is understandable.

Thanks

Sorry didn't see your earlier post.
Could always get one of those magnetic block heaters and put it on the lower water pipe or bottom of the head/block.

Going to alot of trouble there. Why not go to NAPA and get a freeze plug heater and get it over with?
Or a tank heater.

If you have too much of the heater inside the nipple, it MAY overheat in that area, and burn out.

Here are the choices, again:

3/8" NPT 400 Watt element 2-3/4" long, #3500026

1/2" NPT 300 Watt element 5" long, # 8609659

Why not just get the 3/8" NPT unit, and use a 3/8" X 1/2" bushing, and screw the heater and bushing into the head? Apparently, you have enough depth to use that heater.

Ya, I said that wrong. Here is a better description of step #2

2. Connector of appropriate length that gets me the most heater in the water as possible. The 5 inch long, 1/2 thread heater that Bob mentioned in the previous thread threaded into the connector. The picture says it the best.

That should be better

In my opinion, the short nipple and connector should be just short enough to get as much of the heating element into the water as possible. I don't think you want a 5" connector. The connector, which will probably have to be a "bell" if the heater thread is larger than the nipple OD, will be the limiting item. The short nipple should stick out no more than 1/2 ".
