Hi Gang;
Photo of 1938 Fordson N built at Dagenham England. The war clouds were building up and farmers started to buy tractors in numbers in 1938. Ford had updated the tractor with oil bath air cleaner & steering box. They modified the engine with high compression cyl head which caused a lot of problems - crankshafts breaking, and had to alter compression ratios quickly.
This is a beautifully restored example, only the belt pulley (off the later E27N Major) is wrong.
During WW2 around 95% of all tractors in use in England were Fordson N's.

While helping load a Fordson to take to a show(it was"nt in running condition) I drove and held the clutch in to help on any trans drag.Later was told that clutch pedal also served as brake pedal and was causing lots of drag.That;s why they struggled to move it.

That's a nice job David. Yeah, they made Fordsons in the UK long after they stopped here. My Father had an old 1920s vintage Fordson when I was a small boy in the early 40s. Had the wooden coil boxes for the magneto. Hard to start, of course the magnets in the flywheel may have needed replacing. No brakes on the thing. Must have had a lot of rolling friction. Belt pulley which we used to saw firewood. Started on gas, swtiched to kerosene. Hard to steer. Replaced with a 1942 Case S which I still have.

Thats a nice collection you have found Dave. Lot of old Fordson Ns in collections in our part of the UK but i do not own one myself. In 1940 Fords changed the golour to green so that the raiding German aircraft could not see them and attack the trains they were leaving on. The number on the front is the regestration number and GRB neans that it was first regesterd in Derbyshire UK. MJ

My dad just got a Fordson Super Major in good condition for a good price here in Canada.
My question to you is, are there quite a few of them tractors around??
