I own a JD A and it is very good puller of fire wood logs. My neighbor wants to sell me a 300U claiming it pulls just as good as the A if not better. What do you think would be a stronger puller. Have heard those little utilitys are stronger then they look.

I have a 48 JD A and it's my big work tractor. I used a 48 B in the woods for years. then I got a Farmall Super C. What a great woods tractor. Handy and very maneuverable. Never had any expeience with a 300 or 350 Utility but do use my Ford 2N in the woods. All of that having been said, the one thing that hasn't been mentioned in any of the posts so far si the clutch situation: that JD hand clutch just isn't handy in the woods.

HP wise the A is just a little smaller then the 300U. The A by Neb test is 38HP and the 300U is 41HP. The 300U sits lower so in the woods it might work better, plus the 300U has a wide front but if it doesn't have power steering then they are a bear to steer. As far as lugging power I think the A would out pull the 300U for a short distance.

Have driven neighbor"s 350 Utility, Family has a 50 A.

I would think the 300 would be a lot better for going in and out of the woods than a A. Should pull as well at least not enough for you to notice. If it has Fast hitch that would alow you to lift the but end of the log allowing it to pull easier. HOWEVER BE CAREFUL AS IT CAN TEND TOWARDS ROLLOVER.

Only drawback I can think of is the ease of getting on and off.
