Newbie needing advice

UPS just delivered a new rim to replace the split rim on my newly acquired Ford 3400 with loader. My current plan is to buy canned rustoleum paint to spray paint the rim to match. Load the tractor and take it to tire store to have the rim replaced and refilled with calcium chloride.
Is there anything else I should be doing? Any recommendation on painting the rim? When loading the tractor, should it go on forwards or backwards (which end is heavier)?

The other rim has some rust around the valve stem. Should I sand and repaint the area?

Sorry for all the questions, but it's my first tractor and I want to do it right (and not waste my money).

If the rims are otherwise good with the exception of some rust or surface scale, then I would sandblast them. Then prime with a good primer, and then coat with a polyamide(sp) epoxy paint. I can't tell you too much about using that paint because I have the wheels done for me, but be very careful with that paint. The epoxy paint will stand up to the CaCl, along with most other things. I've had a few done like that, and that coating is so hard that you've got to grind the paint off to strike an arc on the wheel. Expensive, but good stuff....

Good day to all, I posted a question about a week ago about tires and filling them. Has anyone used window washing solution to fill rear tires ? It has a lot of alchol in it which is poisionis, but good down to 25 below.

I agree with old, don't go back with calcium. I have seen this come up recently on the forum and Rv antifreeze has been a good candidate. My 3yo son popped off a rusty valve stem awhile back spraying calcium over several things in my shop and it was not fun. If another rim is rusting around the stem by all means correct it. It might mean finding out what is causing the rust if something is leaking and correcting that.

I always load tractors front end first unless I have more then one I'm loading and then I load the first one backwards and the next one forward but thats also only with trike type tractors. You also might look into other fluid to put in your tire since CACL if you get a leak causes the rims to rust fast and thats why you have to replace them so often
