I would like information on 3-point backhoe attachments. I am think about buying one for my 1020 john deere tractor. How well do they work, do they hold up pretty good. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

thank you Alan Robbins

I've had a Woods 750 for many years. Like already said, it would kind of skidder around with not having any real down preasure, but did dig well. Much better than the Ford 4000 hoe i had earlier. Last year I finally got the propper mounts from Woods...almost $350! It'll now dig to China if given enough time. Acts almost like the "big boys"! LOVE it now. Mabey 75-100 hours of use by me, bought it used, but NO problems at all. Mike

I've had a Long 1099 three point back hoe for years now. I first used in on my MF-135 that had a loader and I used the loader hydraulics (initially three point pump, later crankshaft driven pump). The loader would jump around when digging because it had more force than weight. I was able to run a sturdy chain from the lower three point pins under the tractor drawbar support so the weight of the tractor held down the back hoe. I had to make a much sturdier top link as the normal one couldn't stand the forces.

Now I have it on the JD 4020 and so far I've gotten along without that down pressure chain but it would be better with the chain and the 4020 category 2 top link is stronger than the aftermarket one for the MF-135.

It makes a better hoe to have it rigidly mounted to the tractor but that can make it harder to take off for other projects.

The three point hitch mount is superior to using a hand shovel. The backhoe needs to be rigidly and securely bolted to the tractors main load bearing members.

hey b&d, you know what's worse? those little trailer backhoes that you can pull behind a pickup! Those things are so light, that a slightest pressure down on the ground will just pick the whole thing up! same with 3pth backhoes!
