Way O T .But of possible interest to many.I live in Central Texas 70 miles west of Austin.Last year we were without rain from the end of August until mid March. If anyone refers to the weather map on the Weather Channel as I do, they may notice that the dark green area denoting moisture, the heaviest moisture zone almost invariably tapers off immediately West of Austin. From that point West the color fades to light tan for the rest of the state. We have in recent years become more and more arid.Since 2002 my crops have failed in unison with the dry weather. As of today there has only been one shower at my place in the past month which did not even register in the rain gauge. Now who besides me bothers to look up to examine the heavens? If you do ,at least in my area you will note that there are lots of airplanes spewing something into the upper atmosphere. These planes leave contrails very UNLIKE those left by commercial airliners. These contrails do not disappear with time as normal, but spread out into very broad bands that remain in the sky very high up for many many hours and stretch as far as one can see from horizon to horizon. We have had rain in the forecast for day after tomorrow. This morning dawned bright and clear.I was on the lookout for the planes and sure enough they appeared around nine o"clock and covered the sky the entire day in all directions usually three abreast and were still at it at sundown. The sky was left with these broad manmade clouds in all directions.I believeI can safely predict that there will be no rain. Now who is financing this operation?I had work to do so could not count the number of flights but estimate that there were no less than at least thirty and more. What are these plane spreading ,by whom and for what purpose. What is government doing and why? Is this the reason we have no rain and why round bales of hay cost $120 in Texas.I have watched this operation all summer but have never seen so many flights as today. For a while I had thought some of this was tied to weather prediction, now I am quite certain that there is something ominous going on.If others have seen this going on I will be very interested to read your replys.

Out here in the Oklahoma Panhandle, we also see a lot of jet contrails.

As far as I know, the moisture from the planes engines (as a byproduct of fuel combustion) simply freezes into ice crystals leaving a visible trail.

Depending on the winds up high, they may either disperse quickly or slowly.

We have been so dry through most of the summer that even the broom snakeweed was dying. At the end of summer, we came into a rainy spell and got almost 16 inches of rain over about a 3-4 week period.

Neither the dryness nor the rainy spell were related to the contrails that anyone around here spoke of...

Whether or not contrails affect the weather is something you might take up with a meteorologist, but there's not much mystery about where they come from. You're right in the middle of an area of very dense commercial traffic. You can find those long-lasting high-altitude contrails many other places...east central Iowa being one. If I stand outside on a clear day I can frequently count at least 5 high-altitude flights passing overhead at any given time.

These days who knows. I love the ol USA, but I really do not trust even 1 person in charge of anything government any more, and I supported, some what still, Bush. I guess if I had the same thoughts you do , I would not hesitate to call a frew people. FAA, local sherriff, EPA, Tree huggers, kinda hard to cover anything up when birds of different feathers are digging into it for there own reason. Like I always say " Dont believe anything you hear, and only half what you see">

Yes;Iam very serious. For those respondents that think this is a joke ,I ask for some input, not wisecracks.Who do you think can pay for this kind of operation, not just for one or two days but at their choosing year nound? On the other hand I would like to be able to make some phone calls for an answer. However if I am right or wrong I do not think I will get a straight answer from any government agency, having been shuttled from one phone call to another when dealing with officialdom in the past.Go Think

OK,so you are serious, sorry about the smartazz comment.. take a look at the gulfstream, good part of texas and southwest oklahoma have been sitting in a low pressure area for a long time now, from
warmer waters than usual in the pacific, they are still calling it the El Nina/Nino effect, can't remember which..this pocket of low pressure is calm cold air, thats why the contrails linger for hours, the air up there just isn't moving much..it's also why some of the nothern states are gettin so much rain, the
gulfstream is carrying it up there.. the weather guys say it should all return to normal next year..
who knows..it's not as exciting as a goverment conspriracy plot, but it's true..

At those hay prices I could afford to buy my own rail cars and ship it down there. I know where your rain went. It was here in Michigan from mid August until a couple weeks ago. I will be happy to send it back to you as I'm tired of dusty hay and moldy beans and corn. If it weren't for Thanksgiving week I think it would all be on the field still. Don't bother thanking me....just keep it down there from now on.

Here in Idaho they often do cloud seeding in the winter to enhance snow fall. Maybe they are doing anti-seeding in Texas.

It's probably Greenpeace activists flying around, trying to prove there really is global warming.

OK so some of you fellows think that I am a crackpot. However I just gotta tell ya that I hae never seen three commercial airliners flying three side by side and for sure the planes aren't the Blue Angels in practice.Last evening a neighbor claimed he counted six in the same proximity.I did not say anything about that report because I did not wittness it.Also I am aware of the high pressure in this area as well as the composition of contrails and their effects. Further to that, under similar weather conditions I seldom see planes or contrails in this area.So in view of some folks opinion I guess I should go hide in a closet or under the bed and convince myself that it ain't even happening.Hopeing this will all go awaay.
