Need more help! I have good spark to my distributor cap, holding number one wire to plug I have no spark. Taking the distributor cap off my point gap is .066. What is the procedure for setting points?

Turn the distributor so the fibre follower is on one of the cam lobes(the high spots)then set the gap to its proper spacing.I like to use a piece of shiny hard cardboard like the box the points came in and run it through the gap to remove any grease or oil residues.Just be sure that the cardboard doesn't leave a bit of lint in the gap.

Try holding the wire close to a bare part of the head to eliminate the possibility of a bad spark plug.

Did you try another spark plug wire to eliminate the possibility of the #1 plug wire as being the problem?

If you have spark from the coil then you probably need to replace the rotor and/or distributor cap.One or both are causing the spark to go to ground.

If I turn the distributor won't it take it out of time?

Don"t actually turn the distributor itself. Turn the engine over (by hand)until the high spot on the distributor cam is on the fibre block on the points. Then proceed the check and set the gap.

Thanks Pete for clearing that up. But on some engines it is too hard to turn the engine over(not a Super C though). In that case, scribe a mark at the base of the distributor, loosen the bolts and actually turn the distributor, set the points and then move the distributor back to its original position and lock her down.
