Hi;
Of all the US tractors imported during WW2 under Lend-Lease, the Allis model U has the highest reputation. The older farmers & custom operators all loved these "U"s for their outstanding engine torque especially when powering threshing machines by belt pulley - almost impossible to stall however high the load. Yes other models like the W9, Oliver 90 & MM GTA were higher HP, but the U is the one here thats most talked about with fondness & reverance.
Cheers David

Great picture David. My late uncle, after discharge from the R.C.A.F., purchased 2 U's after the war for $300 and made one out of the pair. He farmed all his life with that U, a Ford 601 and a Super Major. The U is now at the former Ontario Agriculture Museum in Milton Ontario. Uncle was an airforce mechanic during the war and all his tractors were kept in absolutely perfect condition ----- a habit carried on from his airforce training.

What with that battery? The UC that I grew up on did not have starter or lights.
