MF took the title from Case but Case took it back with a 20 bottom plow compared to only 17 I believe on the MF. The MF was only a front wheel assist and not an equal size 4 wheel drive, let alone on tracks. Both tests were done in France. Case holds the record but did it with a bigger tractor and plow. It's not really a fair test. 3 extra bottoms would make a huge difference in 24 hours. They should look at fuel consumption and other factors as well. Dave

That's right at 800 acres in 24 hrs.....pretty good going by anyone's standard. 33.33 acres per hour..

France has huge fields in some areas, south of Paris I believe.

i think when MF did it, they were in France plowing in circles around pivots to avoid lost time turning.

Yes, I think so too. I remember reading about both of those. I didn't see the vid as I can't get that site up for some reason, but if it's the one from about 5 years ago, then I read about it.
If I recall correctly, the Massey demonstration outploughed the quadtrac. Massey wasn't running a stock tractor though, from what I recall. They were dragging 7 or more behind, and pushing a bunch ahead, had the engine turned for every foot pound it was worth, and the tractor sensored to death to monitor it. However, they did prove that draft control can be a much more efficient system than brute power. The only difference was that the quadtrac will do that day after day all it's life, and what Massey did was a one of... I think in both cases they pushed their field efficiency to about the limit too...

My Father in law has a 450 quadtrack and just ordered a new 480 and that machine is insane. We have pulled tile 5 ft deep through hills with no problems. It pulls hard has, little compaction, and it rides sooooo smooth you can fall asleep in it. It really is an amazing tractor.

If you look closely it only looks like he is plowing about 4 inches deep. If they put that down 10 inches deep in some good old midwestern clay it would take two of those tractors to go half as fast as he is going.

I would never have thought they had fields that big anywhere in France.

While France is a small country (about 4/5 the size of Texas), they do have some big fields especially south of Paris. IH used to be well represented there as well as John Deere and Ford. JD had/has a huge assembly plant at Orleans. I used to get over there a lot and enjoyed taking trips around the countryside to see what the farmers were doing. Some of the friendliest people I've ever met, in spite of what a lot of Americans say.

Yea right! That is some impressive plowing and he is MOVING thru that field. Could never stop the video at a good point to count how many bottoms on that roll over plow. Lots and Lots is all I could tell.

Thanks!
