What is the difference between the Farmall B and the Farmall BN?

8 inches. The BN used axle housings that were 4 inches shorter than the B. Easiest way to tell which you have is look at the seat mount. On a BN it's right up next to the fender, on a B there's a 4 inch gap.

the bn only had one front tire were the b could have different front ends

HAPPY DEERE is wrong, either the B or BN could have dual front or single front wheels. If you were talking about a JD B, then that would be true.

Rear width makes a Farmall B or BN. Big Fred is correct...
