Anybody know how to disable the day time running lights on a '99 GMC Sonoma? I've promoted-retired the old truck to farm duty only, and I don't need to have the lights burning when I'm out on the farm hauling fence posts or feed, but I still want the lights available at the swith if I need them. Many thanks for any help. Jim.

Jim,

Take a peek in your owner's manual. It tells you exactly how to disable the gizmos.

As said below, press the emergancy brake about one notch and it will turn them off, yet it still will not put a drag on the brake. If it was like the 2000 model I use to drive they will burn out often anyway. You should be able to mount an on/off switch under the dash and tie it into the wire going to the brake switch if you don't trust the emergancy brake way of turning them off.

I had a '02 chevy S10 and if you pushed the dome switch? 4 times it would shut them off. (The button next to the light switch) Look in the owners manual, it might say how to shut them off.

On my '01 Chevy the running lights are separate from everything else, so potentially a person could just disconnect them. On the '98 I had previously the running lights were included I think in the headlights, but were still a separate bulb, so again they could just be disconnected. I think your owners manual should have a wiring diagram in it. Maybe you could study it and find a way?

Are you saying this truck will never be on a road ever again. If not leave them alone. The whole purpose of them is for visablity not only at night but also in the day. I would just leave them alone.

I don't know about a Chevy, but on my 2000, F150, they are on a seperate fuse. It is hidden under the top of the dash. I had to ask a mechanic at my local dealer about it. I pulled it and now I can have lights when I want and turn them off when I want.
