I just bought a '54 Case model VA, four cyl gas, unfortunately I did not know that hydrolic fluid was leaking into the oil pan. The manuel shows 2 seals, one is the oil seal for the crankshaft the other is on the clucth shaft. Does anybody know which is most likely to fail and where I could pick these seal up?

Rick, the pump mounted on the right front and is driven off the cam gear. The seals can be obtained from your local Case IH dealer. I would replace both bearings also. The back bearing is the tough one to get out as it is a blind bearing.

Here is an on line manual for your tractor. HTH

Leak onto the ground yes but can't leak from the torque tube into the engine oil pan from the back, it would drain out of the bell housing timing hole before it got up to the shaft level.

Per Sam#3 leak can be through the pump shaft seal into the timing cover. That is common.

Look for a worn or loose bearing and maybe worn pump housing at the input shaft side of the hydraulic pump. Hyd pressure will force the oil by the seal into the engine at this point usually.

It could also be the pump seal. Available from a Case dealer.
