i read the post over in tool talk about cows out again. seems some hunter cut a guys fence to drag a deer out. i buried an 8 point buck a couple weeks ago, somebody sneeked in my timber and shot it. well it was 2 weeks before shot gun season opened. last week some clown shot a bald eagle a couple miles north and left the bird lay. now the DNR is all over trying to find the guy. saturday i chased a guy off, sneeked in on a four wheeler deer huntin on my property. it seems like some people have no respect whatsoever for other people, especially the agricultural community. you make a huge investment in property and equipment, take care of your place, work hard and do the best you can, then some knot head shows up and pulls a stupid stunt. maybe they should put an open season on stupid people, maybe a 5 bag possesion limit per day.

Some of the vandalism and crimes are commited by the various bunny hugger, anti gun and animal rights types. They figure "the end justifies the means". So they make a bad name for hunters.

go to walmart and get a paint ball gun tell the wardens anything coming out of the woods with blue paint on them didn't belong there. there was a guy up the street who had a load of logs put on the property because his was too wet never even asked us said he didn't think it would be a problem since we had a couple of logs there already we made firewood out of a truck load in one day he filed a lawsuit and was told that he would need the driver of the truck to vouch for him that we said it was OK for the load to go here that was the last anyone ever heard of it

After reading the earlier replies, I am surprised no one mentioned some of their target practice. Back at the farm in Nebraska, we have had several cats and a good dog shot right around the start of hunting season, never mind all the destroyed stop signs with either bullet holes thru them or so badly shotgunned you can just tell they were a stop sign. Also, usually during hunting season, more stuff comes up missing from the unlocked buildings or stolen out or off of any equipment or cars left unattended then. Have had padlock shot off front door of farm house and who knows how much actually taken. I used to enjoy going hunting, but don't want to even remotely be associated with hunters like this. Almost afraid they might think I would make good target practice. On the subject of hunting, one thing I wish would happen is more deer taken, so damn many in the crops and in the road getting hit.

Three boys in jail here for stealing four wheelers lately and whatever you do don't leave a trailer near the road without being locked up. I am in the process of scrounging up enough money to buy a grill and bumper and paint for my sons F100 to repair the damage from a stupid confused doe who couldn't make up her mind which way she wanted to go last weekend. This is a nice headach right before Christmas.I'm not fond of the deer either unless its made into jerky or tender loin being cooked.

White trash with guns. in reply to glennster, 11-20-2006 10:00:04
I have had my fences cut. Trash left laying around. Stuff stolen. I now have a local guy and his kids have exclusive hunting rights to my property. Haven't had any problems since. I was going to write a whole bunch more, but I zipped it out. White trash was the NICEST thing I was going to say.

Glennster, See if your state conservation guys have a decoy deer to set up on your property. We pretty much mopped up the poachers and trophy hunters in my zone several years ago in NYS. Even arrested a local cop in full pack uniform taking a shot.

Local sportsmens groups actually bought the mount for us I remember.

Our decoy was a standing mount with a servo-motor that remotely rotated the head, had interchangable racks, reflective eyes. Some even had a mechanized tail.

It was a huge deterrent and fortunately nobody got hurt in the process. I can reveal this now since its old technique back home.
Some of the illegal stunts I've seen defy belief.....way beyond stupid ! Kestrel

Many years ago, i went up into northern Pennsylvania to hunt deer, and took my Brother in law along. Afetr a day of traipsing around in the woods and fields, with no luck, we decided to stop for some liquid refreshment, at the local hotel. On the way into town, we spied a fake deer standing in the front yard of a home. It was a 6-pointer, looked very real. After jawing with some other guys at the bar, one asked me if we had seen anything. I told them about the fake one, but didn't let on i knew what it was. Wow! They about tore the door off getting out of there! Went up the road in the direction of that deer! Bro and i decided we'd best be gone when they got back, so we left! Never did hear what they said when they got back!

How about hunting clubs? in reply to glennster, 11-20-2006 10:00:04
Down in timber country, land owners lease the hunting rights to hunting clubs. The clubs post the signs and more importantly, enforce access restrictions. They are usually respectable types with hunter safety and game law training. Might make sense if you live away from the land.

I live in my timber and do that anyway.

Have land? Somebody's going to hunt it. Better to know who and that they're following your rules. I see the same guys every year. They give me some money and know it's a bargain, not to be lost. Primary responsibility is to run off anybody who's not part of the club.

My guys take a lot of deer and turkey. Coyotes are fine. Leave bear alone, I like them around. No ATVs and my wife always has the right-of-way. Works out very well. First couple of weeks I see more of these guys than their families do.

"bout 20 years ago a friend and I went to S.E. Wisc. for opening day trout season. Found the creek we wante and asked permission to camp in cow pasture. Gentlemen was real nice and asked that we be sure to close the gate.
We slept in the back of my pickup, and were real excited that we had a stretch of the stream to ourselves. Next morning we awoke to voices. There was about 75 guys walking by us to the creek!
Time we got up, one guy caught a trout and the rest scared 'em off! We asked the farmer why he said there was noone else with permission the day before and he said there wasn't, but he just got tired of trying to chase off so many! Just kept his cows in on opening day of trout season, deer season and bird season, and watched to make sure they closed the pasture gate!
Asked one of the other fisherman and he said they pretty much go where they want! Said only one guy, a half mile upstream caused much trouble, with posting his property, chasing them out and leaving 4 or 5 bulls in the asture! The bulls seemed to be the biggest deterrent.

Hey Glenster, deer season and other hunting seasons do in fact bring out societies finest. It gets crazy for the first couple days of rifle season and then the following Saturday it slows a bit.Couple of years ago me and wifey were laying in bed at about 5:30am and heard a couple of shots right behind my home.I jumped up and went out and there was tracks in the grass(dew)where a punk walked right passed my bedroom window and my shop and started shooting my squirrels.Him and a buddy parked his truck down the road and walked in.I went down there but they gave me the slip but I did ID his truck.Ended up he is a a neighbors son with mental issues.I later found out that he had been tresspassing on other peoples property too.He has been real active so far this season up and down the road back and forth but he hasn't been on my place yet that I have seen.Getting permission helps my attitude towards hunters,I always got permission long before I stepped foot on another persons property.I noticed the ones that have been tresspassing here are the very ones who don't have a pot to pi$$ in of thier own and probably never will, never held down a job, living with thier parents,on drugs,or just mentally challenged.Deer season has its ups and downs and tresspassers are the dark side. There are single and double shots around my area after dark and several before deer season opened. If the game wardens wanted to they could be very busy people.

Aloha, Now this is scary, a person with mental problems owning a gun. If confronted, he may shoot you and get off with it because he is a mental case.

Yep, you wold have to have a bigger bag limit. I could fill all my tags on opening day. Just had one of them sorry you know what shoot this morning and fly down the road a couple minutes later. didn't see it but wife told me about it. I can't get the game wardens to do anything. wants me to get the names for him. yea like i am going to confront a guy with a highpower rifle by myself. Too many nuts will shoot ya around here if they think you will turn them in or shoot your cows.

Keeping the unwanted off my CRP and pasture-land is more than a challenge because much of the time I am living 450 miles away from it. It is posted but that does not keep them off. As I believe that a person may enter into a legally binding contract by their actions, those not necessarily being just an oral or signed agreement, here is what I want to try. Have an attorney draw up an agreement which will be posted at the proper intervals along my property and legally conforming in all ways to what is necessary for “No Hunting or Trespassing” signage. The language will spell out that the act of entering the property obligates any trespasser, who does enter the property to pay a stated amount (could be taxes due on the property for that year.). Other obligations spelled out in the agreement if the people resist payment would be attorney’s and collection fees.

There was a time that land was for hunting - land owner gave up the right to keep hunters off for the payments????? I thought?

Couple decades ago in Minnesota the city folk got a law passed that snowmobilers could use any farm land to snowmobile on, because 'farmers werent using it anyhow.'

That only lasted a year, got repealed real quick when farmers first found out about it.....

Yep people don't care any more. They figure whats your is theres also and can do what they please even if they don't own the land. Its one thing if they ask but then when you catch some one on your land and tell them to leave they act like your the bad guy and they haven't done any wrong go figure what they teach now days in school most really be bad since people seem to not care any more

Those kind of folks are not "hunters" by any stretch of the imagination! They are criminals plain and simple! No self-respecting hunter that I know of would want to be identified with them. I don't blame you for being mad, I would be too!

I think you would have to up the limit. They breed pretty quickly. Never thought I would see the day when people would wait in tents for half a week to buy a stupid video game or pay to have bereavement notices in the newspaper for the pets that they had that died. Same mentality of people that dis respect other peoples property. They think everything is put on earth for their own use.

Do you put up signs to let hunters know that you have (( NO TRESPASSING )) AND will be shot on sight, you don't have to tell them what you'll shoot them with.
